New Renderings: Hires And Pandora-res With Size Comparison

Nice design, though. Maybe you could keep the design but instead of the 3D ridges, the lines and logo could be textured differently than the rest of the casing. Texture relief would not prohibit skins or stickers either.
Maybe the Logo can be painted. With the Rendering I just would show, that the Logo is one part with the Lid. :)

Embossed lines would be better than grooves, and easier to clean.
True. But my "lines" are all rounded and the other edges are 45° slopes so I think, dirt will not be a problem. And the "riffles" are only 0.5mm deep (but 2mm wide, spacing between is 1mm) so you can keep 'em pretty clean. You don't touch this part of the case very often by the way. ;)

Maybe I'll try a embossed Version later. So there is no wasted space inside the Lid (even if it's just an half millimeter). :)

So, I had made a improved 3D mockup of what I think could be an interesting Design of the Pandora's outer Lid. To seperate the Pandora Design from a (closed) NDS Lite, the Case could look like this:

(font is just a example)
Such a one piece Relief-thing shouldn't be a problem for the production...maybe. :)

That looks freekin awesome. Makes it look rugged and durable for some reason. XP

Yes, I hope the pandora will be a very durable thing to. :)
Here, I have made Renderings with embossed riffles. So the Lid looks even more durable because now the riffles are added to the Surface and not subtracted (the embossed lines are 0.5 Millimeter deep and 2mmm wide)....

I don't like the font of that though. It reminds me of an game trade in shop in the us. A really lame franchise thats name escapes me.

I dunno. I know they ripped me off on my copy of the pc version of mgs2.

Also is there anywhere to put the stylus.

Also does it open the full way? like the ds folds back so its almost a straight line back or is this stuck at the 90 degree open?

Quick thing. If this is coming out this april may, we need to get the design down so you guys can start writing the os and make a sweet gui.

The only conceivable issue with using embossed lines as opposed to engraved lines is that it's just more plastic that has to be added onto the case. I have no idea about production costs, but it's possible that embossing a lot of the design as opposed to engraving it could jack up the price of the cases by a bit.

Just thinking aloud.

I'm personally not concerned with looks at all. Especially if it is going to jack the price up. Yes, it may get called a DS quite often, but the GP2X got called a PSP despite their obvious differences.

so what are the chances of having this in our hands in april/may?

But yeah overall i like it a lot. I'd just like the stylus holder and make it so it can fold all the way down

Does it remind anyone else of a rubber floor mat from a car?
Actually, it reminds me of those exercise steps. You know, the ones you step up onto, and then step off over and over again? ;P

As long as it is stable enough to step on it I will buy it. ;)

out of curiosity, how much would a modular keyboard (ie you could swap out a "brick" for the keyboard, more buttons, storage HDD, even a ram expansion pack etc) increase the price?
personally i think it would be a great way to differentiate it from the DS in the publics eye, and provide a solution to questions on the design.
