Update new firmware update (future SZ v1.74) - please help testing

I guess having it as a PND does mean you need to find a working SD card to put the PND on. If it were in the OS you could test the SD card before you use it to put PNDs on.

Of course, there are ways to install a PND without using an SD card, but they're all a bit hacky IMO.

Mind you, at this stage of the game we're not really focusing these updates on new users, and all existing Pandora users should have a card they can trust. And on the Pyra I understand that the F3 project started as a debian project, so it should be easy to apt-get install if you want it.

Right, for Pyra, F3 will be an apt-get install away:
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/f3

Needing a working SD card to put the PND onto would be a reason to have it in the Pandora opkg repo, even if it's not in the base image.

It could easily happen that somebody has only one SD card (or two the same) that they thought was OK, and starts losing data even years later.

Now I'm thinking about making a Pandora-friendly GUI for F3, and that should be a PND anyway...

Since it would be a very small PND, it might be possible to add this PND to the NAND based PNDs for minimenu (wifi toggle etc.). That way notaz wouldn't need a recipe.

ED has done that with some stuff and now it's huge pain to maintain.
I've bit the bullet and wrote a recipe, f3 can now be installed using opkg.

http://notaz.gp2x.de/tmp/SuperZaxxon174.zip
Edit: it's released now: https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/superzaxxon-v1-74.77104/

It works for me, but it would be great if somebody could give it a spin too to see if I missed anything, like it happened the last time.

Flashed it on my ReBirth, works well as far as I can tell. No issues during install and first boot, and all the PNDs I tried worked. Thank you for the update!

I have done a full reflash to 1.74 yesterday and it's been installing and running smoothly. I haven't tested extensively but wifi is as good as ever, bluetooth works with my bt speaker (which it didn't before, but I hadn't tried in a while). I'll need to test some more pnds but everything I did try works so far.

Is there anything in particular that should be tested?

edit:
forgot to mention that I am using a 1ghz pandora. my cc unit is running latest 1.73 but updated through the script.

I flashed it on my CC Pandora. Played a few games but also haven't tested extensively.

Great, thanks! With that it'll be easier to advise people who have SD card problems.

I have a Linux board with a CP2102 USB/serial interface and this needs a module called
cp210x.ko that I havent found in SZ. In the web I also didn`t find the right one. Always
getting errors when trying to install. Can you give me/us the needed module ?

I am using Slackware with Kernel 3.2.67 so it would be nice to have this module too.

Thanks for help

Thanks everyone for testing, it's exactly what I wanted (no specific tests, just generic stuff). I've posted a release thread now:

Yeah but I'm busy now, might only have time for it at the weekend. Feel free to ping me in case I forget.

As written I am using Slackware with 3.2.67 Kernel so maybe you can put the module
for it somewhere for download. I can wait some days - no problem.

I've pushed out an update which enabled all USB drivers I could find still disabled. You'll need to ask Linux-SWAT to update the Slackware side because I don't know how he's including the kernel (compiling himself or just copying from SZ).

Is the module cp210x.ko included ? I downloaded the zip file. How can I open the rootfs.img file to check or can you give an adress to download the module separately ?
