So, a few years ago, a friend of mine wanted a cool fire effect for his title screen, so I coded one up for him.

I decided to adapt the algorithm and make a little demo for the gp2x as a way to get my feet wet.

Available here:
http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,38,1471

It's just the one effect so don't expect much more :D

Left makes the fire darker
Right makes the fire lighter
Up makes the fire higher
Down makes the fire lower
X exits
R will change the palette

Q: The binary is a lot fatter than I expected, is this normal when using SDL?
The equivalent win32 binary which also uses SDL is about half the size.

The binary is large because the libraries are statically linked (that is, the needed functions are all included in the executable). The PC version uses dynamically linked libraries.

Nice effect!

If you haven't heard of it yet, check out the GP2X Demo Competition, which would be a good use for talents like this!
