Yeah, I know it's pretty late, but I'm too busy and tired at the moment, sorry...

Anyways, Franxis released a new version of his great MAME port to the gp2x :)

- Updated M68000 ASM Cyclone 0.00861 core by Notaz.
- Some corrections in the sample support (from MAME GP32 2.2). Thx, Slaanesh.
- Fixed the bug related to GP2X clock frequency not changed when using the FEMAMEGP2X alternative frontend. Thx, Zaq121.

Zaq121's frontend als had been updated a while ago... so:

Download: MAMEgp2x v2.6
Download: MAMEgp2x v2.6 Sourcecode
Download: Zaq121's Frontend
Homepage: http://www.talfi.net/gp32_franxis (MAMEgp2x)

Anyone gotten Berzerk to work? It plays fine, but there's no sound (I have the samples, and I see it load them all when the game starts up), and when I try to exit, the emulator freezes. It did the same for me in 2.5.

It works fine for me, but I do get the occasional freeze on exit.

is it ok to assume that with the updated core some games will run quicker?

Great work as always Franxis also mustnt forget Zaq121 :)

Berzerk - no problems here (esp samples) - I play it a lot :)
Actually can't remember if it exits okay - I usually switch off at the end.
Late? It's 20 to 1 in the morning here - that's early.
Red wine hangover likely later in the morning I guess :(

great improvements in lotsa games again! donkey kong now with very good sound! thanx a lot again, franxis!!!

Thanks, ED ... get some sleep, will you? :)

Sleep? Is that a homebrew game I haven't heard about yet?

I still have no sound on Berzerk, Asteroids, Astro Blaster yet Gorf and Battle Zone work fine.

Berzerk locks up on exit by L+ R + Select

Anyone got a solution?

Firmware is V2.0
S/N 00001272

Yes, Asteroids and Astro Blaster don't have sound for me either... Battlezone has sound, but it doesn't sound right (I don't hear any explosions, and the engine noise sounds wrong). Sinistar, Donkey Kong, and Q*Bert also don't seem to play their samples. Bosconian just gives me a black screen and hangs the GP2X. However, Wizard of Wor and Star Trek both seem to work fine. Strange that some people are having these problems and others aren't... I'm using firmware 2.0.0 for what it's worth.

In any case, I'm glad to see the sample support is here... Berzerk and Wizard of Wor are two of my favourite arcade games ever, but somehow neither of them seems quite as fun without the robots/wizard taunting you.

Make sure that the samples you are using are .SAM format. Current MAME samples are .WAV and will be ignored. There is a sample archive under the GP32 files section which provides compatible samples.

On the official mame site under other downloads, there is a wav to sam converter.
