How do you get games to load? Every time I select a rom it boots me out.

Or you're asking MAME for an impossible video mode, e.g. using 2x scale which would result in a resolution larger than the maximum supported. The /tmp/pndrun<mame-something-or-other> file should tell you the exact reason.Bosbeetle said:NickLoTurco said:How do you get games to load? Every time I select a rom it boots me out.
It was mentioned before that that happens with the wrong romset you need the 106 and not the 54

I think that means I'll need to find a data file for this version of MAME. And I think I remember (it all seems such a long time ago!) that the gp32 and gp2x versions of MAME came packaged with a similar data file. Is that the case here, or do we need to find it elsewhere? I've just had a quick google for it but wasn't really sure what to look for.Sarlix said:kaprikawn: You can use programs like clrmamepro and RomCenter to manage your rom files. Or if your feeling brave you can edit them manually
Side question, what changes happen so that dumps stop working? Shouldn't they be full digital rom dumps that never change? I never understood this.kaprikawn said:What's the deal with romsets exactly? I know that earlier roms do not work with later versions of MAME (generally speaking unless there's been no changes to that game). But what about the other way around?

Uh, they are 4:3 like CPS2. Problem is, that these games were made for CRTs with non-square "dot matrix". So in the Result they look widescreen at square-pixel Displays. Onto dots that are longer than wide, these Games look 4:3 without "scaling".craigix said:I love that. People forget the CPS games were wide screen.

If the MAME 106 build has scalers I don't see why not...

I haven't found any scalers, and I've looked.
Then there was metal slug...
That is why there should be a ROTATE 2X mode where the screen is rotated 90 degrees. Hardly "impossible". The Wiz does this. Then you can just map game buttons to the keyboard. No it would not be quite as comfortable but would still be better than playing on a postage stamp sized image or some crappy weird fractional scale stretch that looks ugly (and still be too small).SteveM said:Or you're asking MAME for an impossible video mode, e.g. using 2x scale which would result in a resolution larger than the maximum supported.
