Mame 106 Any Thoughts?

stevem -- btw, you can use squashfs iso's in the pnd, if you want to compress it without then zipping it.

I just checked Pandy - /dev/fb0, fb1 and fb2. Triple Buffer! Hooray!
This is not how it's supposed to be used (they represent 3 video layers in OMAP3), I'll post more details about this later (ping me if I forget).

Yeah, I was wondering about that. There is of course a difference between compressing for distribution (downloading) and having thing compressed locally (i.e. on SD). Are there any negative implications of using SquashFS? I guess there´s some performance hit, but I suppose it´d only really affect loading times.

squashfs is pretty good, so it generalyl doesn't hit too bad, but it hits some apps worse than others. For MAME, probably not much at all, since you'd be uncompress-and-load and thats it; a game that seeks back and forth continuously in the compressed filesystem, now that is where it gets you.

That's what I figured, yeah. For a big fat executable like this, it's going to end up in RAM pretty early on. I'll give it a try next time.

couldnt get the two game i tried to work will try harder tommorrow lol

EDIT: Steve -- let me know if its halfway accurate or useful, and I'll post it to the wiki. I wrote it quick, so might be all crap :)
Looks good to me. Maybe work it into this article? http://pandorawiki.org/Setting_up_a_cross-compiler

Added a link :)
A link? Lazy bugger ;-)

But fair enough, I think all my stuff's on dl.openhandhelds.org now. In fact I just uploaded a new one, but the announcement's stuck in the mod queue for the News section, so officially I can't mention it here ;-) I think we're quits now!

Is the new file the GBA emu?
Yep, looks like the announcement just popped up... If you're busy on the app store, maybe you could stick Frotz on there while you're at it?

Apologies for the OT-edness...

I can activate upload rights at the weekend. Just want to do a few more tweaks first, found a few bugs during this last week which I want to squash.

GBA!? SQUEEEEEEAL! Okay wait must remain calm.

I think I've downloaded like 8 PNDs so far in anticipation of My Pandora and half of them have been updated since I started. Great job guys.

Hey, exactly like onto the PC! What a chance. Don't tell me that "P" pauses the emulation...

;)

Seriously, I would like to know if Gamepads/joysticks are already supported by this MAME Version onto the Pandora? I have a nice "little" USB Arcade Stick that I use onto the PC when I play MAME.
Uh, THIS ONE: http://www.thatvideogameblog.com/2009/01/10/ces-09-hands-on-street-fighter-iv-tournament-edition-fightstick/

Well, the good news is that I got that port of SDLMAME working and it has some more video/scaling options built in. Bad news is that the performance is understandably pretty abysmal, seeing as it's all done in software. Even simple games need a bit of overclocking to get up to full speed, but at least you can play the likes of Galaga and Pac-Man right-way-up without it being tiny. I've put a PND here for anyone who wants to give it a whirl, but don't expect anything semi-modern to run well at all.

Is there any rotate 90 deg.+ scale 2X options?

That is REALLY needed in MAME for games like galaga, Pacman, etc which look awful and small played in landscape and fraction scaled.

Otherwise I hope Slaanesh ports the GP2X MAME.
