Now Play-Asia will not ship any Sony related games, consoles or accessories to Europe, you can't even get a Hori screen protector for PSP.

Damn Sony are scum, forget just boycotting there products now I feel like doing a Postal on there London HQ.

Play Asia have always taken this stance as far as i'm aware, in fact its not just restricted to anything Sony, one of the accessories manufacturers (Capdase I think) won't allow exportation of any of their items regardless of platform (their stuff is actually pretty crap IMHO)

SCEE must have had a few choice words with them.

SCEE are just plain bastards there must be something that can be done about them in the courts they are just pissed off because PSP is region free and the PS3 is going to be aswell

Just had to post this really

Thank you for your e-mail regarding www.Lik-Sang.com's recent closure,
which has been received today.

I understand from your correspondence that you feel aggrieved regarding
the closure of the website www.lik-sang.com. I can advise that Sony
Computer Entertainment (SCE UK) have successfully sued Pacific Game
Technology (Holding) Limited (one of whose company trading names is
LikSang.com) for infringing our Intellectual property rights. The case was not
contested by 'Lik Sang' who therefore incurred no legal costs. As a
result of winning this case we were awarded substantial costs against
Lik Sang which have not been paid. Therefore as there has been no extra
financial burden on Lik Sang, we would deny that our actions have had
anything to do with this website closing and can confirm that the legal
entity is still trading.

I can also advise that the importing of any PlayStation product into
the UK from an NTSC territory is against the law. These units do not
carry a CE mark which means that they are not compliant with UK consumer
law. In addition, any imported PlayStation product will not be covered
under warranty within the UK. We enforce this not least to protect our
consumers from some parallel importers who include components in their
package that do not conform to EU safety standards and also from buying
a unit that, for example, will not then play movies or games that are
purchased in the UK.

Whilst we appreciate you taking the time to write to us to express your
views regarding the importing of PlayStation product, we are not able
to respond to any individual comments on this matter.

I'm tempted to email them back regarding the $190,000 legal bill they have given lik-sang until the 1st of November to pay and to point there attention in the direction of there screwed mains cables, consoles that don't play blue discs or dual layer dvd's and of course there wonderful laptop batteries, not to mention the fact of course that PSP is region free as will be PS3 and PS3 is going to be released before the industry standard copy protection for Blu-ray films is desided.

But frankly I can't be arsed with em, they can just shove all there CE marked products up there backend.

Do you think Sony really gives a shit what you think? You will still continue to buy Sony products and that's all that really matters to them "at the end of the day".

These companies are not stupid and they ensure that they're fully aware of the consequences of their actions, BEFORE THEY ACT. They would not sue Like-Sang in this way if they thought for one moment it would drastically impact their sales figures. They were fully aware of what the reaction from the general consumer public would be towards this. The expression of our disgust towards Sony all over the Net right now is no shock to them at all and anyone who thinks somehow Sony must be rueing this lawsuit after seeing “the mighty consumer backlash” is a twat. :p

Sony’s Marketing Dept. Consumer Psychologists (yes, such job titles exist) would have wrote a detailed report to Sony CEOs before they even considered suing, which would have basically said this: "Suing Lik-Sang will cause the usual barrage of emails and forum posts from the people expressing their shallow superficial disgust but - at the end of the day - consumers are a fickle bunch with no real guiding principles or morals. So when the PS3 ships, they'll all still buy it anyway. Good to go boys!"

Sony couldn’t give a shit what you think about this, the British/UK judicial system couldn’t give a shit what you think, your Government couldn’t give a shit what you think. Basically, NO ONE gives a shit. Your emails and posts are just viewed as white-noise because they know, ultimately, you’re weak and NEED their products.

If everyone were to make a real stand and not buy another Sony product and pirate every game/ music album they released in protest - then maybe they’d consider consumers in future. But of course that wont happen... :)

No one needs a product, they just want one because they are sheep, I ain't a sheep I'm sure theres plenty of others out there who ain't sheep and pirating on PSP is piss easy so even one of the brain dead sheep can manage it if they must.

Those who want to get screwed over by Sony deserve to be for being weak little doormats
the sensible people out there who have a life and treat gaming as what it is (a hobby not a life style) will have no problem what so ever with keeping there wallets shut out of principle and disgust.

You talk as if there is no choice as if all TV's are Sony, all consoles are Sony etc, theres plenty of choice.

Maybe, but all PS3s are Sony, and only PS3s can play MGS4, FFXIII, FF Vs XIII, Gran Turismo... the list goes on.

and Assassin's Creed. Don't you dare forget Assassin's Creed :D
That's not an exclusive title though, and it's going to be better on the Xbox360 too.

Course it is. And pigs can fly and Blu ray is smaller than DVD.

Actually, draco is correct. the 360 version will have better AI, tis a fact.

I stand corrected. However if you buy the ps3 (which I am), you get all of those games on one system. I dont own a 360, so I couldnt care less.

PS3 FTW

Well, all playstations ARE sony indeed
And there's no much option, if you don't buy sony, you'll buy a nintendo, which would do the same as sony if they had the chance, and the same consequences (seeing that consumers are sheeps and they will still buy your crap the same way), the only exceptions was a consoles known as gp32 and gp2x, who are truly open-minded gaming devices

But I see that a lot of other people who bought gp32/gp2x also bought PSPs and DSs, they're likely to buy PS3 too. Often, one of my friends say to me: "hey, you could've bought a PSP and a mod-chip or a DS and a flash card instead, then you could play emulators AND commercial games" one can easily see that they, like everybody else, don't mind being threated like criminals to the companies that they give their money... so let's thanks the real creators of electronic enslavery: ourselves

I wasn't intending on buying a PS3 before this crap, so nothing's changed for me.
The main difference I see is Sony is an electronics and media company, MS is a software company and Nintendo is games company. If I like games, it's only obvious that my money would go to the company that basically specialises in games.
I refuse to buy a console which has the primary purpose in trying to push Bluray into every home. I don't give a toss if Sony or MS have exclusivity rights for whatever titles. I won't buy that console out of principles.
Exclusivity isn't the be all and end all of the matter anyway... if a company wants to sell the game on another platform they will... they'll just bolt on a couple of features and call it the "director's cut" or "Deluxe Edition" or simply cave in out of peer pressure.

The price tag is a pretty good reason not to buy a PS3 in UK. Play.com are taking pre-orders for its March launch at a whopping £550.

How many of you Americans would still buy it for $1000?

...That is like saying DVD was completely useless on PS2 apart from as a video medium. Heck, why don't we all just go back to cartridges? CDs on PS1 were just for music too, and the bigger space is useless for any game. I love low res textures too!
There are lots of things I don't like about PS3, but Bluray is not one of them. You get 5 times the storage of a DVD9, so theres much more space for super duper uncompressed hi res content.

The difference there is that DVD was an already established medium. With the case of PS1 CD was an already established medium.
Most of the earlier software on PS1 and PS2 was something along the lines of "oooh... erm... all this space... er shit.... how do we fill it... Erm.... FMV"
I prefer realtime generated cutscenes personally since they take up less space and flow with the game better usually.
The only thing I'm interested in Bluray or indeed HD-DVD for is the capacity and what that offers in terms of backing up and archival of files. I really see no need for "uncompressed hi-res content" which sounds like a synonym for "waste of space".

DVD was great for movies, however, The resolution was good and of course it's digital. I don't see the need for upping the reslution to beyond that of DVDs, nor do I see the need for a new media format for movies when more efficient codecs are letting us fit more in less space.

Thats like saying the psp should have used flash memory. Every single developer seems to complain about lack of space on a DS cartridge, yet nobody does that for PSP. Sure, UMDs may be slow, but thats much much easier to get around than no space.
