Just Bought A Gp32...

not much difference in the smc brand. all are pretty much the same but i think the price differs because of the brand. for example those samsung ones are pretty expensive while vikings are cheaper.

Since this hasn't been answered I'll rewrite it here: I read somewhere about registering your GP32 at the GamePark site. Will I need to do this when I get my GP32? If I dont need to, are there any benefits in doing so?
First off. Welcome.
Second- If your purchasing a BLU (which I believe you are), no you will NOT need to register.

I did purchase a BLU. Even tho I dont need to register, are there any advantages in registering my GP32 when it comes?

Hey xSilv3Rx

You may also want to invest a few dollars (i'm not sure what they cost over there) in a card reader.

As it will be a lot easier for you to copy files to the SMC and it will also save you some battery life, as transferring files using the supplied USB cable takes quite a while.

You should be able to pick up one locally for cheap.

Congrats on your BLU purchase.

I've already got a card reader which is used for a digital camera. The camera uses Secure Digital cards, but the reader takes both types :)

Another post to say welcome to our little corner of the internet - hope you like your GP32 when it arrives :)

SMCs in the UK are sold at ~£17 from eBuyer, iirc, including VAT... £14.99 excluding both VAT and delivery... Not sure what that converts to in CND or USD...

Things you ought to know? Well, have a quick skim read of the faq, and it might be an idea to try practising some GPCinema encoding before you get it, simply to get a feel for virtualdub so its not as confusing when you get the actual thing. 2-Pass encoding is well worth it, btw :)

Other than that, only thing to remember is that GeePee32 does not run at full speed, so if ever you make a decision based on that, its probably the wrong one... its good for seeing things, but it runs them at ~ 1/3 of how fast they usually play.

Oh, and get yourself some rechargeables and a speed-charger. If you use your GP as much as the rest of us do when we first got it (let alone now lol), it'll save you a *lot* of money.

xSilv3Rx don't even bother with Futureshop-to expensive, Wal mart seems to have good prices and there are no Best buys in Quebec so I wouldn't know what they are charging.

I have 2 viking SMCs, never had a problem with either of them!

Well apart the obvious but heyh, get loads and loads of rechargable batteries ^_^
And huge charger of course, lol.

Thanks for the advice, I'll have to start looking for some rechargable batteries :) Is there any kind that lasts long than others? I thought I read in some post about differen't types of batteries being better than others..

Go for the highest capacity you can, like 2300mh. And I guess a reliable brand will be better in the long run than a cheap-o brand.

whatever you do, no matter WHAT! do not buy at walmart. they are an ultraconservative antiunion shit hole, and its worth it just to pay a coupe bucks more to buy your SMC from a corporation that pays its employees shit and treats them the same.
I take it you dont like Walmart

The cheapest I found a 128 SMC was $59.99 CDN at SuperStore. Im sure I can find it cheaper on the net :)

I also looked at rechargable batteries. I didn't realize they were so expensive. It was around $45 for 4 2100 mah batteries. I guess I'll get these online too (much cheaper on ebay)

Edit: I just realized I dont even know how many batteries the GP32 takes.. :p I assumed it was 2. Is this correct?

I've been watching the auctions of this seller on eBay and their 128mb SMCs always go for under US$20 (sometimes as low as US$17), plus insured shipping of US$8.74 to Canada. Their feedback is huge too. The seller's name is "starbella1" so search for that ID and see.

Note: I've never ordered anything from them, in the end I managed to get a cheap SMC here in Australia so I would get it faster.

Also -- wow, that price for batteries is huge! I picked up 4 x 2300mAh Energizer Digitals for AUD$19.99 ( ~US$14.50) at a local office supply place. Keep searching, you will get them much cheaper...

I bought my SMC from Jr2swiss, at his website www.gp32z.com

It ended up being alot cheaper than I would find it locally. It's in the mail now and on it's way :) Now all I've got to do is get some 2300 mah batteries for cheap :)
