My domain, gbax.com expired (my host was supposed to renew it) and I've been trying for the last couple of weeks to contact the registrar, uklinux.net without success, their phone number is dead, they don't answer emails etc. etc.

How on earth can I solve this? Even Ed tried to transfer it to his sever but without their help we are stuck.

Anyone have any ideas?

Best I can do...

You can view old expired web pages by using some like the Wayback machine.

http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.gbax.com

... Click on a the blue circles marked on the calendar to view a snapshot from that date. Click the years at the top to go back to an older date... You may be able to then view the source HTML and save it to a file. Then transfer it to another domain.

Example from December 2002:

http://web.archive.org/web/20040109213953/http://www.gbax.com/ ... That snapshot complete with graphics and all...

How does that help recover the domain?

Craig, regardless of who filed it for you, your registrar is tucows. Go to http://www.tucowsdomains.com/ and contact their help desk. Be prepared to fax in a lot of information to prove you are who you claim you are.

This happened to me as well. I bought my domain with a 5 year expiry (the longest period possible at the time) and during that time the company I had registered through went out of business or was bought up or something. Not sure what happened to them, but the end result was that my domain was now registered elsewhere. I had to fax in my drivers license, a change of admin form, and a filled out payment form for the $20 handling fee in order to get it back when it finally expired.

It wont. Read:-

Craig writes Ed wanted to transfer it to his server. I assume by 'transfer' he refers to transfering the site to a new server. Using wayback machine to view old pages at least lets you recover the page (if that has gone missing).

If your domain expiration is still within the grace period tucows should be able to help you rescue it according to their domain rescue promise. .com domains with tucows should have a 40 day grace period. And fill this form up.

Well, I initiated the transfer two days ago, but since the old host has 14 days (AFAIR) to acknowledge the move, not much happened here yet.

Contacting Tucows also was the next step I suggested :)
