I'm also curious about iTunes because of the DRM on some of my music. I don't pirate any music and a good number are actually bought through iTunes.

Too bad, if you pirated them they would actually work on devices like pandora...

Itunes will never be supported on pandora, songbird is very similar and my be possible... google it.

Guess I'll just have to re-encode the songs I want or continue to carry around my iPod.

Reason why I don't own an Apple product: once you've gotten involved with Apple, you're stuck with them. Kinda like the average marriage.

Quite frankly, I'd like to see an open source version of iTunes... featuring free songs by artists who don't use DRM... Genius.

Ever heard of jamendo.com? Or what about magnatune.com? Both sites distribute "fair trade" DRM-free music either by professionals or indie music producers. And they're both built-in as music sources in Amarok.

*thisthisthis*

I never buy anything that's DRM'd, even movies. Since bypassing DRM is illegal via DMCA, it's much less of a pain (and cheaper) to just pirate it. I'm a criminal either way, just this way I'm a few hundred bucks richer.

Rhythmbox for music management, GTKPod for syncing to my iPod (and yes, I hate my iPod, the music management on the device itself is tragic).

I second this. This is exactly what I do myself. :)

Thankyour for that link.

All music on iTunes is DRM free.
The only problem now is movies & audiobooks have DRM.
And there's no linux port.
And no linux ARM port for that matter...

I don't know why people hate iTunes. To me it has the best interface. Amarok Banshee and all the others (except songbird) where confusing...

Haha, yeah. I don't have any regrets about it, though. To date this is still only a future inconvenience for me. I find my computer-related stress has dropped immensely since going over to the fruit-side and with boot camp, I'm really not missing out on anything.

When I got a MBP 17" Hi-def wide with the free iPod Touch last year, it obsoleted my bought-at-launch PSP which I only ended up using for music due to getting bored with the limitations of homebrew and custom firmware after university. While the iPod's been great for music and whatnot, I really miss the companionship I had with my PSP back when I used it for so much more during school. VNC was definitely my favorite PSP homebrew and then I had the camera attachment which made things fun for awhile. Lately, I have enjoyed iPhone programming especially because of the convenience of how it's all set up with xcode and the simulator (and the fact that it's all proprietary). One click run and play just like good old fashioned Q-Basic. PSP programming was really annoying with the whole compiling, transferring, testing.

Pandora, I'm really excited about. I'm glad I got into the first batch and can't wait to get my hands on it. Looking to make a Castlevania-style game. :)

I do like the iTunes interface but only because I'm semi-OCD and like to fill out all the media information and album covers. I think I mentioned I use an iPod touch so it's music interface is different than a regular iPod.

That's my favorite feature of amarok, it grabs album covers for you. Amarok also has a much better search bar, that lets you use boolean expressions to build filtered playlists with multiple artists. Though, I had problems with amarok 2.0, and have not had much luck running it on my mac.

Oh, and for legal download services, I usually go to either amazon or rhapsody's mp3 download site. I had trouble with getting amazon's mp3 download manager working on my particular linux distro, but rhapsody made the whole thing pretty easy, I think that you just bought a bunch of stuff and then download a giant zip file with everything. Very linux friendly. (At least it was a year ago, when I used it last.)
