How Can I Access Windows Folder From 2x?

how do i create a folder here to put shared files in, or a shortcut to an existing folder? sorry for being such a lamer.

EDIT: Whoa, i made it somehow! Thanx again! Gonna try diablo on psx4gp2x now... :-D

Glad you got it working :)

In case you need to need to share a different folder, right click on it and click "Sharing and Security"
From there you can set it to "Shared This Folder" and set the name it'll be shared as.

Depending on what you're using (XP has "Simple" and not "Simple" sharing modes) you can set who has access. Depending on your HD format you might need to add the user to the "Permissions" button AND then also onto the "Security" tab. That I do have some experience of :)

You need to install the Samba client.

Then, telnet to your GP2X and do:
smbmount //your_pc_name/2xshared /directory/to/mount/things/in

If you want to have 2xshared visible from the menu, mount it in /mnt/ext.
Just tried this, gives me this error "mountpoint /mnt/ext could not be resolved"
Doing a ls showed me start.sh and that's all, where are the other folders? :/

It sounds like you're in the root user folder.
Use a cd.. a couple of times and you'll get back to the folder with the "mnt" folder in it.

What was the excat command you issued over the telnet for the mount command?

You were right, next problem appeared though...

This is what it tells me when I try it now:

Is your PC really called "PC." ? and does it have a share on it called sd2?
(just checking, I know that sounds silly to ask)
You could try replacing the PC. name with the IP address of the machine (that is the address on the other end of the USB lead, if that makes sense :) )

I've been following this thread! I should have thought of this earlier! If you are trying to share a NTFS partition don't bother Linux kernel does not cope with NTFS at the moment =/ else continue!

im trying to make a share too! i may have to create a new fat partition =o

Actually not sure if it is NTFS the error im getting is:-

ERROR: smbfs filesystem not supported by kernel
Please refer to the smbmnt(8) manual page
smbmnt failed: 255

not sure what the problem is now!

im using- in a telnet session:-

smbmnt //192.168.5.5/share /mnt/network

the command ultimately gives the above failure after requesting and receiving a password!

DOH!

insmod the module I am a fool!

Ok I had it working and played wipeout 2097! unfortunately i couldn't exit the emulator and so shut down the gp2x untidily! =/ now i cannot mount the share again =/ getting error message:

Failed to find real path for mount point

please help

The format of the shared folder doesn't matter. My share is NTFS and the 2x sees all and runs all the files from there with no issue at all.

Sadly I'm no Linux expert (far from it), but I believe (and I'm semi guessing here) that you'll need to "unmount" what ever share you mounted to start with.
Saying that the error message also sounds like it can't find the path you're trying to mount, is your USB Network up and running when you tried the command again? After you re-started the 2x that is.

i can telnet to the gp2x and ping both ways so i guess the usb network is up, the network mount that I used should not be mounted anymore since I have no script to remout on boot, and appears not to be mounted via calls to umnout command.

I'm at a dead loss the only idea that I have is that there is some wierd mess up in the samba client, I have tried copying over the files to resolve the problem to no avail =/ ARGH whats wrong??? =(

Replace 'pc.' with the IP of your PC.

Not really all that sure what's going on!

What command are you sending to the 2x though the telnet session to try and remount the command?
I am assuming that you've insmod'ed the samba files that you copied over before you tried to re-mount the PC share (I forgot that part last time :) )

fresh swtich on for gp2x connected to pc by usb

pc and gp2x networks configured as:

pc IP: 192.168.5.6
GP IP: 192.168.5.5

Gp has all network services activated

ping works in both directions! windows can see and access the gp shares, telnet works.

1: I check the mods:- lsmod -- smbfs is not there
2: I plug in smbfs module:- modprobe/insmod smbfs
3: I check that it infact now plugged in:- lsmod -- yuppers =D
4: I now attempt to mount the windows share //192.168.5.6/PSX :- smbmnt //192.168.5.6/PSX /mnt/net
ERROR: Failed to find real path to mount point
5: I try:- smbmnt /mnt/net -s //192.168.5.6/PSX
6: it works??? no:- ls /mnt/net
ERROR: Stale NFS handle
ERROR: input/output error

The net directory then dissapears!

net is a directory in /mnt/net that i created, I used this method to create a successful share my first time, until i was force to un tidily shut off the gp, im gueesing some file has been left locked or in a half updated state? Other than this glitch the gp operates as expected although it does not seem to be able to resolve my pcs hostname to ip which it did the first working time =/

thanks for any help! thanks

You say your PC's IP is 192.168.5.6. Is that your PC's main LAN IP or is it the Linux RNDIS network adaptor's IP?

Yeah 192.168.5.6 is the RNDIS adapter attached to the usb port, my external adapter is 192.168.1.68 which the gp2x cannot reach since I haven't setup net sharing in winblows!

The thing that is really confusing me is, when it was all working I could put my computers name in and it would resolve to 192.168.1.68 obviously it cannot reach that network, however now with it not working it cannot resolve this name... Just thought it could be another clue to my problem ;) hmm this is a real pain in the arse, is there anyway I can simply over write the linux os and start afresh? I'm getting convienced that It is the gp2x software, this possible?

Netsharing your way out of the USB network to "the big wide wide world" is something that I've not got to yet! Although I'm sure it'll happen sooner or later. :)

Not sure about the name resolution... Could be something to do with the problem.
You could start from scratch by re-flashing with the v2 firmware, then re-installing the Samba files as well.
Never know it could the problem.
I did read somewhere that the "stale" problem was something to with files/folders being shared more than once, the only thing I could that could solve the problem was to remake the file.

re-make the file shared on my windows box? or on gp2x?

One other thing... Is the firmware the linux os?? where is all the software held???

I believe it meant the file on the PC (could unshare the folder first), then reattach to the share (after you've re-shared it).
It didn't say much, but the guy just copied the file to a new name. Deleted the old one and renamed the copy. This meant it wasn't attached to any lists.
Saying that he was on Linux.

Yep, the firmware is linux os, the menu system.
The software (I assume you mean the Homebrew games, any AVIs and emus that you're using) would be on your SD card (at least I hope it is :) )

Good idea, trying to connect to a different machine altogether would be a good troubleshooting step. As for reflashing fm v2 to fm v2 I couldn't say, I've nver tried it...
Anyone else tried it?
