I've not read the book, but I thought Steven Fry was blatantly annoying. It was like the thing they did in Starship Troopers with the computer screen in that. Steven Fry at the best of times is a wordy toff. They should have edited him down somewhat.

Best scene imo was the mice at the end getting splatted. Everyone in the cinema laughed at that one. And the point of view gun when the android fires it at the aliens - pretty fun stuff. Have I said too much? :D

well i saw the movie, twas ok, not the best. i haven't read the books nor seen the series or the original 1981 film. but my mom said it was pretty close a few things added her and there. Another thing about the changed stuff i saw this little tid bit on the film and they added/changed is what they read from douglas adams notes and stuff he wanted to put in the books but never did.

Wordy Toff????

Man - I could listen to the bloke for hours. I find him fascinating in an intellectual sense....

Ah well, to each his own.

Indeed. Stephen Fry is one of the most interesting people around, and as he was a close friend of Douglas, I can't think of a single person more qualified to be the voice of the book.

Anyone read his Autobiography - 'Moab is my Washpot' ? Its a damn good read. You'd be amazed what the guy got up to in his youth...!

Stevie Fry might be a good bloke in reality, but ever since I saw him bouncing down a road in his top hat going to Charlie and Camilla's wedding, I've had an irresistable urge to shake my fist at him and yell obscenities.

As for the film, the way in which the narrative was produced broke up the scenes of the film so it looked disjointed. I guess thats the problem with adapting books and staying faithful etc when bringing them to the big screen. (I think the narrative would have been better without the graphics).

Most interesting person around right now is either the Dalai Lama or Bush's shoe shiner. :)

DR Who ain't that bad, sure its not as good as the others, sure it has no continuing story in it and sure the DR Who actor just doesn't show the sinister unconsiuously menacing part of the role, but on the plus side its got Billy Piper in it  :)

That's an advantage? Well, if you want Chris Evans's seconds...

Anyways, I keep looking back at episodes of the old doctor who and finding many of them to be silly, with inferior humour to the new series, but with far superior storylines. I think if theres anything that the new series has brought, it's well written and superbly delivered dialogue.
I mean, lets face it; other than "EX-TER-MIN-ATE", what memorable dialogue does the old doctor who have?

But anyways, with any luck I can drag 'Veg' to hitchhiker's tomorrow.

Yeah, that is a big minus point.

I saw the movie about a week ago, and absolutely loved it. It was really funny, and had very interesting ideas (some absurd, some almost seem possible)

I love that part when they kept on getting slapped by those shovel things whenever someone had an idea, that was awesome!

Now I just gotta read the book :)

If you haven't seen the film do yourselves a favour and buy the BBC series on DVD instead it's MUCH funnier and sticks closer to the book plus you get more of the story too.

The Film isn't dire but it could have been so much better than it was.

I notice everyone is comparing it all to the book. But the book isn't actually the first incarnation.
The radio series came first, He then wrote the book, the TV series followed that, and finally the film (obviously).
All versions had something different, things added, and things taken away. So if the film differs in any way, it will just be keeping up the Douglas Addams tradition :)

I have a similar stance on this as I do on Dr Who

it is mindless childish drivvel

and in my opinion not veryu good at all

I think there's a pattern here, I get the feeling you don't like Sci Fi and don't like to have fun! The good thing is, your opinion is in the minority! But I guess we are all entitled to our opinions, if we all liked the same thing, then life would be boring. I hate baked beans, but I know lots of people who love em, and I'm in the minority on that subject. It's all about personal taste :)

I myself haven't seen the film yet. I'm also looking forward to the Star Wars conclusion which starts here on Thursday! Another pattern, I really enjoy Sci Fi, especially when it's written well, such as Farscape, that's an amazing series, and so is the new series of Battlestar Galactica :D

itjust something about dr who and hitchhiker, maybe its the complete low budgetness of it that gets me

its not that i think its crap, i just think it is aimed at adults that want to rekindle their youth
