A new device called the GreenPhone is supposed to come out next month at a "reasonable cost". I hope this is cheap cause I would definitely pick one up. What do you guys think?
It's Arabic, It means "Long Live the Nation" or Homeland.sehs33 posted on Aug 16 2006 at 01:25 PM said:Guess not at all, such buttons are a nightmare for playing games, I am still suffering whenever I try to play super mario on the nes emulator I have on my Nokia phone, the only good phones for gaming to this moment are Ngages + some PDA's for playing games that require a mouse like movement (I am addicted to playing worms world party on my imate Jam)
Edit: BTW, What does your earlier signature mean OMars? 'ash alwatan?

You can run some emulators on such machines, but the scene is terrible and the emulators are primitive, poorly programmed, slow and rarely maintained. To put that in perspective, even NES and GB emulation was a chore to get working at acceptable speeds with a 400 MHz XScale chip, and MegaDrive/Genesis emulation either ran at 2/3 of its proper speed without sound with decent accuracy, or at 100% of its proper speed but with no sound and very inaccurate emulation. SNES emulation can only be described as hellish and uselessly slow. The D-Pad looks to be of the clicky style on the 2 PocketPCs I most recently owned, which was nearly useless for any sort of gameplay, unless you were say, holding right in Mario or Sonic and NEVER letting go. Any kind of fluid motion is impossible.
As for technical specifications, while the XScale processor is compatible with ARM9 code, its 312 MHz clockrate is unimpressive in that an XScale processor is roughly 50% the speed of a true ARM9 at the same clock. e.g. a 312 MHz XScale will perform on par with a 156 MHz ARM9. It's much weaker than the GP2X CPU, especially if you overclocked the 920T to 266 MHz-- it would take an XScale over 500 MHz to match its performance. I also see no mention of any sort of 2D or 3D acceleration.
So .. no, not competition at all. Not even in the same playing field. Or the same sport.
