Gizmondo Better Than Psp ?

I think DS will win coz its got the time advantage

if you look at PS2/XBX/NGC the PS2 came out first and got the average gamer who doesnt read magazines and stuff going "WOW"

so by the time the G and XBX came out (despite being technically superior) they didnt install anywhere near as many consoles in homes

So i think all thos PS2 owners who currently dictate the gaming market wil see a DS go WOW, be unaware that the technically (graphics wise, and thats all they tend to give a shit about) superior PSP is on the way

I think the Giz has potential. There are a few areas of "interest" to keep an eye on. Price is obviously one and release date is another.

If we look at the target audiance of early adopters, all of which would be happy to get an import DS, it raises a question of "Why now"

You then look at, and this is only what I am concluding after watching Giz for several months, its business model and you see the revenue stream for the Giz coming from several area's. Games is the obvious one, but then there's downloadable music and movie content not to mention the proposed "Ads"

But why pick a favorite now? PSP, DS, Giz, etc, to me just makes for a very interesting time. Which will be loved by the homebrew / emu scene? Which will have the best games (maybe they will find a split by game genre)? Who knows?

Let the battles begin......

Sony's main downfall will be battery life, as with other companies that took on Nintendo. Sony were actually quite smartin releasing the PSP at a dirt cheap price, this means they have a better chance at hitting Nintendo hard.

I think Sony will come out on top, not because their games will be better, but because people will flock to it, as the Playstation is a huge brand, and very succesful.

Nintendo are actually targeting the older market this time around too, they have adds in Maxim (etc.) involving women and touch...

BTW: I didn't read the whole thread :D .

i dont why gp32 was even mentioned in this thread. gizmondo has a shit name and sounds and looks childish so people will rule that out. the ds will be bought by the few people who liked the gamecube and the large majority of people will go for the psp just because the playstation always comes out on top

My opinions:

Hardcore gamers know that everything
handheld that nintendo has made has sucked.
So now you'll ask:
Q: Why did these handhelds survive?
A: Because the other ones out there sucked even more, and
kiddies bought the games could they have no way of knowing
which ones will suck, so they bought based on the advertising they're
exposed to. (Nintendo's killer strategy)

So I'm expecting the DS to suck.
I'm not saying that I'm expecting the PSP to rock though.
I really couldn't tell ya.

I am however expecting the Gizmondo to not even reach most game store shelves. It might become part of the toy isle like Game.com did. Or it might become something that only has a small fan following.

weirdo

The problem with the PSP outselling the DS is that it can't due to the demographics each are catering too. The PSP is aimed at hard core older gamers with mroe money to spend, but these people also have other things to do with theire money, one of which is buy games for their kids, yeah thats right the Nintendo DS or more specifically the GBA and games for thet system they choose.

Also there wont be many people willing to buy their kids a PSP due to the complex nature of it, videos? music? games on little disks? all easily broken by kids, atleast if they drop a DS the damage would be less dramatic. It's too high tech a toy to give to a 14 year old that will take it to school and get it snatched.

Also the average gamer knows what they want, with PCs in almost 80% of the worlds homes equiped with internet gamers know what sites to go to for the information they want, frankly I dont see how print magazines even stay in buisness anymore. The only people buying games are parents who didnt grow up on games trying to make purchases for younger people without their knowledge and that tends to evaporate during this seasong due to xmas lists.

OMG Gameboy Color Rocked My Socks!!!
I loved that handheld.
Zelda was so good on it.

I Love Nintendo!
And Their Handhelds Rock

Hey, Razzy, i see your from Ilfracombe, used to live there myself, how's the old town now, must be getting quiet this time of year, i used to work at the Tunnels beaches, managed to save money now i'm not near any arcades, ah the memories in Sunspot!

Lest we forget that Nintendo still has the next Gameboy, which will be a lot more like a PSP (basic control methods) with possibly similar graphics

Nintendo will coem out on top because they have a back-up plan

Personally the size of the Gizmondo's screen 2.8" is the one factor that will hurt it the most. The games look amazing, the specs are way above par, and it has Microsoft to back them (we know with the XBOX that microsoft is willing to lose money to sell a product), and if it wasnt for the 2.8" screen, I would most definitly get one, however, its not even an option with that small of screen.

And the specs, although they are great for emulation, you wont see any games that actually make use of all that power so its kind of a waste.

You will find it on store shelves, thats almost a gaurentee since they have Microsoft behind them. It wont last long however...

I see Nintendo getting smart and pulling a Sega. Seriously, the vast majority of Nintendo fan boys love nintendo not for their systems, which are always subpar, but for their games, so why not do what Sega did and just make the games.

Nintendo dropped from King of the Hill to nothing but 2nd best when Sony entered that market, and with Sega (and now XBox) in that market as well, Nintendo is fighting to keep their head above water, they are fighting to not be in last place! Its a fight that in many areas of the world they are losing. You cannot honestly expect any different in the handheld market now that Sony (and many others) are activly pursuing that market. Just looking at the DS vs the PSP, once again Nintendos hardware is subpar, and its only their games that will give people reason to buy them. Games that Nintendo can make for any platform (like Sega does now), if they so choose.

Akuma!
Where have ya been?

I don't think it would be right playing mario on a system that doesn't have the nintendo logo on it though. I guess unless it's emulated.
PS2 is Subpar. It's doing good, and most PS2 games suck. I don't get it either.

I dissagree, first M$ isnt a heavy supporter of the Giz just yet, just licenced out several games. This is not particularly helpful to the Giz atleast not unless there's a sign of weakness from Nintendo which there isn't likely to be because they're confident of their position in that market because they;ve held it for the last 10 years unopposed. They dont feel they should drop out of the race because they beleive they're doing what the other two arnt. They're still popular in japan, which is where it matters for them.

If the Xbox is barely excepted after 3 years on the market then the Giz will be probably break even about the time Sony announces the PSP2 because it's not even an official M$ product.

Even if the big boys that currently dominate the consol market enter the handheld market, there's no garuntee they can take it form someone who's developed as much brand loyalty as they have. I bought a PS2, I refused to buy a gamecube for the longest, yet I still bought a GBA and even upgraded to the SP when that came out, they were also capable of getting me to break down and buy the GC eventually so obviously they're soing something right.

urm............Nintendo are sitting on top of the world right now

they were the highest grossing entertainment firm in Japan last year (i think that was what it was)

they sell only a few systems, thus loosing money

but everyone with a gamecube will more than likely buy a lot of the Nintendo published agmes

wheres SONY still loose money on consoles but only gain a bit from publishing games because not everyone buys the latest Jak game

Sony make a bomb on games, all console manufacturers do. You need an expensive liscence to develope, and then some other shit for putting the game out in every region.

yeah i know, but what im saying is, even if there are 14 times as many PS2s in the world I dotn think SONY make a similar ratio from games compared to Nintendo

Sony actualy had only lost money on the PS2 for the first 2.5 to 3 years. The last generation of PS2 has been a income generator for them atleast untill the PStwo arrived, I'm sure they had to blow a little on the development and production of this version but assuming they continue to sell they'll continue to make money untill they release the PS3 (and to a slightly lesser extent the PSP since their sell thru esimate for it is a lot smaller taking into account the issues that have and the nintendo portable dominance factor.)

>>Nintendo is fighting to keep their head above water, they are fighting to not be in last place<<

I am lost on how this makes sense.

The thing is 'we' play the games on these things and come first place, second place,... last place on them.

Sony, MS, Nintendo are companies. They aren't playing games as we are, they are in it for profit. I recently read that Nintendo is the most profitable (only profitable?) of the three companies on games.

The business plan of Sony, and specifically Microsoft, is to create a monopoly situation and generate huge profits sometime in the future. Microsoft has lost enough money on the XBOX to give "1983 Atari" a superiority complex.

Say what you want, but Nintendo are focused.

(PS: and yah, Nintendo had that desirable monopoly situation in 1988 that MS desires)

If you're going to create a monopoly you have to do it in an area where no one else will/can compete on an equal footing leaving you to do what you like in dealing with their customer base. Such as Nintendo did in the 80's, unfortunatly they got stupid and played fast and loose with shady pricing tactics that they paid for later.

Right now they have a monopoly on portable gamming. Unless sony does something crazy like perfecting their battery.
