there seems to be all the rage with SNES emulators.

anyone working on a GBA emulator?

if anything I think gba games would be better on the gp2x. as the fonts and text would be easier to see

with SNES emulators. the font/text are alittle small. as the games were first intended to be played on bigger video like a 20" tv.

I'm not keen on trying to read little words on a rpg on a 3.5 inch screen.

sure there are great games on the SNES and some that I wanted to actually play and finish like Final Fantasy 3. and secret of evermore.

but common people alot of the games we have for the SNES we played already and finish, with SNES emu on the gp2x we are just playing games we played so many times before. now instead of on a PC or SNES we are playing on a portable device.

I'm looking forward to GBA emulation as it is not so playable on the gp32 AFAIK.

There are alot of of games for the GBA that I've never played before that I want to play. plus the size of the text is intended for smaller portable screen so I don't have to squint my eyes to make out text on RPGs.

as much as I like Final Fantasy series and Secrete of mana and other games from the SNES I am ready to try some new games.

I would have got a real GBA. but it is just a gamming device. the gp2x is multifunction.

I would LOVE to sit next to some young punk in the subway train with a GBA and whip out my GP2x.
- first I'll listen to my mp3 on it
- then i'll watch a south park episode
- then start viewing pictures of pretty girls.
- then I'll startup the exact GBA game he's playing. ..

and then I'll do the same thing to the DS playing punk.. (minus playing the exact game as him, but I'll be starting a good gba/snes game)

Then I'll sit next to the last punk with a sony PSP.
- first I'll start up a game while he's playing his game.
- then he'll be a smart ass and start his mp3. and I'll do like wise
- then he'll start to view porn pics, I'll do like wise.
- then he'll pop in a UMD movie and watch it. I'll do likewise with my movie
- he will smirk at me as he see his 4 inch screen agains my 3.5 inch screen.
- his victory will last for 10 minutes while the battery on both our unit runs low and blacks out.
- I will wait a few minutes to see the boredom and disappointment on the punks face then I will pop in a spare AA battery into my GP2x and let him watch me play Chrono Trigger.

It would be quicker to just get a real GBA instead of waiting for a GBA emulator on the GP2x, Which may or may not happen. If it does happen, Whether it will be playable at any rate remains to be seen. If you only want it just to play still available to purchase GBA games, Then get a flash linker to go with your nice new GBA console you just brought (above).

ahh.. if only we had subways in oregon.. then I could do that too.. Meh. I'd rather not boast my beast, or I'll get it stolen or something.

It will easily be playable! The GP2X doesn't have to emulate the processor so that would take a huge amount of the problem right there...

But first pls a GBC Emu!

I still hope so much it will be relased soon

And your movie crashes after 2 minutes, whilst he continues to watches his without defects on a larger screen in Stereo.

Then he'll pop out his spare PSP battery, thinking you may have the power but at least I can watch a damn movie.

Then he'll play old dos games using dosbox and have a gander at his spanking Amiga emulator. One day he might be playing PS1 and N64 games as well.

Seriously though, the gp2x is great idea and not a finished product. The amount of problems which you guys are having is immense. I say sod that, get a BLU GP32 and a portable DVD player.

OMG! PS1 and N64? LOL! The PSP can barely run SNES emulation overclocked at 333mhz. There is a PS1 emulator for PSP, but it currently runs at .5 fps...
also the GP2X does have stereo sound... there's already a fix out for it...

really.. the gp2x and psp will have the same emus. there wont be any differents in some time.
emulation wise the psp is not better than the gp2x.

Agreed.

Plus, you could show him your huge list of homebrew games (when a huge list of them appear), and then brag about his PSP having 2.0 firmware, so he can't play homebrew.

Then you'll both realise you missed your stop during your handheld war, and are somewhere in Kenya.

Kid?! I'm 29 years old :)

curse me and my addiction to retrogamming.

when I was a kid my family was kinda poor so I didn't have much money for video games. (heck I played supermario/duckhunt on my NES for at least 6 months when we got the console before I can afford another game, and my family don't know any english to rent games)

I use to dream of a magical machine that can play all the games that existed (at least up to that time) and I didn't know about PC gamming so my gamming world was. GB, NES, GENESIS, TG16 SNES. neogeo.

With this I think my dream can happen. (sure I can do that on my PC and laptop but I don't have the spare time to enjoy it as much) if I can get all my games in a single portable device I'll be in heaven.

A GBA emulator would be good and is possible (it was borderline possible on the 32), the only trouble is the legal issues. The SNES and other consoles are long gone, nintendo doesn't make any direct profits off them. The GBA though is still fully alive, a GBA emulator on the GP2X could well draw the ire of the games corporations which causes trouble not only for the GBA emulator but also for older consoles (in for a penny in for a pound...)

OMG...

Why an Emulator for our self-backuped-orginal games should be illegal...

This thread has no reason to go into the legality of anything. This thread is about an emulator. Emulators are legal. End of story.

A full-speed GBA emulator is possible. When it will happen, if ever, is the real question. Expect to see a playable but slow GBA emulator in a month or two (or less).

Heavens but you must spend a lot of time on the subway...

Also, while like many of you I would be confused by iignotus's statement regarding the full legality of emulators, consider: emulators have no copyrighted material in them, including images and code, as the code that the GBA or what have you runs on is unknown to everyone. Thus, emulators are always fully legal, even (in all cases I can think of) under the hell-spawned DMCA.

That's really strange.

Anyway, GBA emulation is a ways off, though I shouldn't think it's too far. I'm more interested in SNES since while I played some wonderful games I didn't play many more. In addition to replaying SMRPG:LotSS (SHOW ME A LONGER ACRONYM, I dare you) and Kirby SuperStar I'll have a go at Final Fantasy and other lovely Sqaure titles... And maybe even play through all the Mario games.

I'd like a GBA emulator, but only to make carrying my GBA unnecessary. Downloading newly released games (of quality), where purchases still support the makers, is dastardly.
