Firmware Upgrade Compatible Cards And Faq

but all I've seen is the updating screen, never a success screen of any kind. It just starts booting up again right away.

true. there is no "success" screen. if you get the "firmware update" and after that it boots like it used to it is already a success.

i also finally managed to upgrade it twice yesterday (lcd fix and 1.0.1) with my "Extrememory 1GB Performance" Card (133x speed) but it only worked using prodo's method: format to fat32, switch on gp2x, insert card, check card contents in explorer, switch off and back on.

Having problems with an Integral 512Mb - cannot flash - it is FAT32 formatted and the gpx2kernel file is the only file on the card.

Perhaps a silly question, in the zip file, there is also a file GP2XBOOT - is this file needed at all either for the initial flash or subsequently.

(Just bougth a 64Mb Kodak SD from Ebay - £6.00).

if you're talking about 1.0.1 just put all the files from the archive onto the card, let the updater do its job (hopefully) and then run the .gpu from the utilities menu.

haven't read the entire topic but i thought this would be very interesting... some official info about the firmware... and how to make a uppgrade!!!

here is the link: Official info about Firmware

Uppgrade guide.
1. Unzip all the compressed files and put in root directory of SD card.
2. Insert SD card into GP2X and turn off and then turn on.
3. The image 'Fimrware Upgrading' shows and then rebooting starts.
Make sure the prior image of 'loading' is changed into 'Firmware Version 1.0.1'
4. After booting, execute Utility in MENU. And then go to root directory of SD card, execute patch20051128.gpu.
5. For a few seconds, the screen turns black and then turn into normal screen.
6. Execute Info in Setting MENU, and then make sure of version 1.0.1.

Just Uprgaded the firmware :

Used PNY 256mb SD card from dixons (£19 - I know, but I was in a hurry )

Formatted card to FAT 32 using windows XP - external card reader ( iBuddy )

Followed the above instructions - all worked okay.

Can't get it to work..

Using Integral 1gb, formated in gp2x, Microdia FlashMover(cardreader) and a Sanyo digitalcamera. Tried all the files in the zip, and a couple of times only with gp2xkernel.img

Formated to FAT 32 using WinXP.

Also tried with a SanDisk 16mb, only could format to FAT though. But tried, and didn't work.

Any other suggestions?

This is really crap-o-lishous... Can somebody please just figure out a 100% sure fire way to update the damn thing? Like which card reader to use, which card to use, how to format the card, and what exactly to do to make it all magically come together would be nice...

Actually I'm not sure it has too much todo with what card it is. Since a couple of people get it to work with one type, and some other peeps with the same type just won't get it to work. But then I don't know what else it could be. GPH fooling around with us maybe? :)

I tried updating mine with an Integral 1Gb card. I formatted it, copied the img files and switched on. I got the 'upgrading firmware' message and waited for it to finish.

Over an hour later I was still waiting when the batteries died.

Now I just get the vertical stripes, so it looks like I bricked it.

Can someone who has succesfully upgraded the firmware please let me know how long it should take?

Well Kingmax 64MB cards can be added to the list. Still not a happy bunny though the firmware fixed one problem (half of the screen brighter than the other) But now Ive got scan lines across the screen and it flickers a lot more!

It should take just a few minutes. Have you tried new batteries? it sounds like they ran out of enough power to boot.

The batteries were brand new alkalines, I put them in just to do the upgrade. I know I should be using Hi-capacity Ni-Mh, but I haven't been able to get any yet. The alkalines should have lasted long enough if it only takes a few minutes.

I think the img file must have gotten corrupted when it was copied to the SD card.

Nope, cant get it to work on my 1Gig Peak card either! Just boots up into the menu deleting both img files leaving the .gpu script and programs :(

Ditto with unbranded 512MB card from aria - actually tried with 3 other cards to same effect - No problems reading / writing to from Mandrake / PCMIA card reader though

WHERE ARE THE SERIAL CABLES ?? -
