Firmware 3.0.0 Released

It shouldn't matter if it is or not .. the FW upgrader should've erased it, if it were so important in the first place..

Just wondering, isn't there a way around to get more than one firmware version on a unit? were we can choose the firmware to run at boot maybe (and thus making the GP2X as annoying as a PSP? :) )
Yes it is possible and actually quite easy. One way is to boot off SD using art's version of u-boot and I have been experimenting with another method, but it isn't perfect yet so probably isn't that interesting right now :)

You know guys, the greatest thing about our beloved GP2Xs is that it can be modified to do anything, am proud of having a GP2X :)

BTW, anyone knows what is this cable that Jacxz posted a picture for? I wish I can have a simillar one, but the only two differences are that it should be EXT male at one side, EXT female at the other side, and it doesn't have to be retractable, or even of the same thin wires, and it will be much cooler if it was even longer.

Edit: I just reread my post and noticed that the cable I want has no simillarity to the one posted above.

Still using 2.0.0 that came on my GP2X. I have yet to feel a need to change. :)
Yeah me too, I would never upgrade unless I have a problem, not even for a tiny boost, might upgrade if a firmware version increased performence dramtically, which I don't think will happen.
I have the same train of thought. However 2.1.0 vastly improves SD read (/write?) speeds. Very useful for everything really, especially Neo Geo! Also, the menu no longer flickers. That being said, I'm now waiting for the next worthwhile upgrade.

I heard that some stuff broke with 2.1.0 like DrMD. I know that was fixed but there was something else that didn't work. I can't remember what it was. Who knows what obscure program out there is now broke with the new FW.

Probably none of them that weren't already broken with 2.1.0 are broken now... they broke because of an incompatibility with early methods of loading the MMU Hack.

One small thing I'm going to whine about... why was the NAND/Builtin option removed from the ebook reader? Now the license files on the NAND are fairly useless... I can't put myself to sleep by trying to read the GPL anymore :D

I was wondering, is it that hard to add patches to update the firmware instead of the method currently used? I mean it is risky having your battery drain or your home's electricity go down for a second in this very unlucky momnet and brick your unit, right?

Edit: Mudi, I have a better solution, add all MSX roms to your Sd card, and start reading their names, they are endless, you can play them, they wont take that much space + reading these names is much more boring then reading GPL :D

The only way to actually brick the unit is if it dies during uboot update. Everything else you can recover from just by sticking a file on your SD card and booting with start+select. Patches... um, I don't think it would be any faster, and I really wouldn't want to have to depend on patches to update the uboot. That just sounds scary to me for some reason.

As in, uboot flash failed? Bummer :( Most of the GP2X shops will reflash the uboot for you IIRC, you might want to contact one of them.

Yes! Start+select don't work =(

I live in Russian and don't have any GP2X shop =(

Oh, god! What i should do next?!

Well, at worst you have to build/order a JTAG cable to flash the uboot yourself. No need for panic, it still is possible to get it back... just harder.

Is there actually going to be an "official" release of 3.0.0 ?

Or is this the version that was meant for release "this week" on gp2x.co.uk?

So where i can buy JTAG cable? Or how i can build it?

Any FAQ?

I was going to upgrade from 2.0 to 3.0 and now I don't think I'll bother (I'll just up to 2.1.1). I'm not happy with GPH appealing to the sheep nation - please excuse my rant here - with pretty things since pretty things can get "out of fashion" very quickly.

Functionality rules overall.

This sheep nation has been responsible for crappy, pretty things like over-commercialisation (the current rise of third generation emo (again sorry) and Big Brother) and now this is happening to our lovely little gem of a device!

Although GPH may think that this is a good idea, it isn't, so please stop it.
