i just read....

http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/puzzle/katamar...ws_6121112.html

the middle of the page, if this rumor turns out to be true, i think this will be the end of nintendo. that is unless they release regular controllers with these touch screen controllers. I applaud nintendo for wanting to be different, but touch screen controllers work for shit, if anybody has tried an emu on a pocket or palm pc that does not have a pad.

thats a bit of a narrow minded comment.

i can see this idea working and very well too!

PDA screens are not designed to be used as game controllers, the revolution's controllers will be designed with this in mind.

That Rumor has probally come from the fact that you might be able to use it as a controller in some games, like the GBA, link cable.
It would not be a nintendo killer even if it was true, why would you say that?
The PS3 front looks horrible but I'm a bit curious as to why it has a picture of the phone I'm about to buy. (Sony Ericson V800)

The Ps3 is all about home entertainment, not about gaming alone, where as the NR, is about changing the way people play games.
Did the very first control pad kill the gaming industry....

control pads helped the industry, but no shoulder buttons, and the like, People are used to what has been working for years, i believe a change this drastic might not favor well, have you ever tried those touch pads for the NES, granted it wasn't a touch screen, but they were still unresponsive and failed miserably and were never released, that i'm aware of, for any other system after the NES failure. With a touch screen, i imagine it would be protected somehow from smudging and scratching and in general from the oil of peoples skin and stuff, unless you have to hold it and a stylus at the same time, that would suck ass.

I call it a nintendo killer because of Nintendo's track record of innovation. Virtual boy anyone? DS so far is not much of anything, N64 wasn't much because of it being a cart system, was not as popular as playstion, and the Gamecube wasn't even that popular, basically because no online support and it plays mini disc, which means no dvd.

first, as a rumor it's hard to know what these thigns will look like or how they'll even function, the screen could be extra durable and made for hours of touching and pressing smudging would be a pointless thing to worry about as it wouldnt effect the over all function of the controller if it's just used for direction or analog movment.

Wait to actually SEE the thing before you write it off.

Second they said that PS3 image was fake and I'm inclined to agree because it's a OBVIOUS cg render with a bunch of design problems like the size of the UMD and Memory stick slots, the fact that there are no USB ports and the power switch on the back with no power button or eject button on the front.

It's Fake.

By your logic the company should be dead and gone by now.

Perceived "failings" of various system is only relative to sales of other consoles. Whilst each of these systems may not have sold as many as the Xboxes and Playstations, they still sold well enough to keep nintendo as one of the major players in the computer game industry.

yes, companies make mistakes. virtual boy was a mistake, all nintendo had to do however was move on and forget.

your nintendo bashing doesn't support your argument at all, most of it seems inaccurate (DS sales are currently soaring) and pandering to some kind of mainstream acceptance.

i'm not bashing nintendo, i just think for its consoles, that this will probably be the last if it's too "revolutionary" and Yes, after the SNES, nintendo should be dead but extremely strong Gameboy sales have been working well for nintendo for years.

N64 not as popular as PS1? N64 wasn't much? Can i ask. Where the hell were u when the N64 came out? obviously stuck glued to ur PS1. Nintendo sold far more N64's than sony sold PS1's. And the N64 not being much. Well thats just plain stupid. N64 had some of the best games ever made. And wat did the PS1 have, hmmm? A load of crap. As for the touch screen controller? I wouldnt rest on it. I very much doubt it will be that. As nintendo said it will be innovative and that has been done by DS. And so wat if gamecube didnt sell as well as xbox or PS2, it still has better games on it than most of the systems. And Kickinwing ur reason for no one buying gamecube is stupid. ow my god it wont play dvds. big wow. if u already had a ps2 ud already be sorted in that department or if u didnt ud have a dvd player. And ok it doesnt have online support but does it really matter that much.

Carful there dude, you're almost on the opposite side of the coin from him on that post. PS1 won it's generation, N64s go for 30 bucks on ebay.

man, what's up with all these fanboyish comments?
sure the n64 wasn't crap and had a lot of good games, but it wasn't nearly as popular as the ps1. this is fact, man!

and like alpha said, those ps3 images are an obvious 3d job(good one, too cept for the reflections and other things mentioned). i'm surprised it got that much exposure! anyway, i kinda like that design, haha

there's not a single person on this board other than fanboy Ganepark that wouldn't admit that had the Gamecube been standard media of dvd roms with dvd player that it wouldn't have sold more units, it woulda sold a hell of a lot more, Dreamcast would probably even still be around had it been dvd rom media.

It probably would have sold more gamecube units, but it would have been pirated in no time, and Nintendo would have made massive losses from piracy. I mean look at the Xbox, practically no one buys that and doesn't modchip it.
And as for the touch screen controllers, I doubt very much that this rumour has any basis in reality. And even if it did, somehow I don't think they would use them if they didn't work properly.
I have a theory that these controllers will be pressure sensitive all over, so you can squeeze anywhere and it would feel like a button, plus the whole thing would be covered with a screen, so developers could make buttons anywhere, and they would feel like proper buttons, not just look like them. But I still doubt the actual thing will be anything like this.

I don't know anyone with a chipped Xbox, yet most of my friends own Xbox's. Lets face it, piracy isn't that big of a hit to profits as the masses don't know how to do it.

you're wrong

the only thing that would've encouraged gamecube sales is easier cracking, which is only just being decently implemented at the moment.

dreamcast bombed because of release time and a weakening of the sega name.

i bet if you looked at the number of xboxes sold and the number of dvd remotes or somesuch in order to enable DVD player functionality you would see a huge huge huge differences.

Dreamcast is a perfect indication of how easy it is to pirate games. I think that was top of nintendo's brain when they chose mini discs. Hopefully ninty will do the same again for the revolution to stop piraters but have the discs as writable on both sides. And the dvd thing, if u wanted a gamecube with dvd play then u would have got a panasonic gamecube. And here's the thing. Its a GAMES CONSOLE and not a multi media platform. u wanna watch dvd's, go get a dvd player or just use ur ps2 which im sure most people do as i do.

But not including features that are almost a standard in the industry is just bad business, Nintendo fucked up, and I hope they do again.

having a dvd player in the console isnt standard. Its just something sony decided to shove into their console cause they are in that market and want to bring them together so they can fight their battles on one front. And would u please explain how nintendo fucked? and y u want them to do it again?
I await ur answer
