12 seconds HA! I get 10 seconds!

Anyway i tried that skin changer but it didnt work, was i supposed to make the nad "not read only" or something crazy like that or should i give it another shot?

bah! Are you sure you taking into account the actual moment the switch goes down? If you are I want your GP2X, two seconds is like an eternity with this new firmware! :p

And be sure to use a stopwatch none of this one mississippi, two mississippi nonsense. :p

K fine without the mississippi nonsense it was the slightest amount under 12 seconds so like 11.50? and thats from the moment i flip the switch

3 Minutes achieving the update (not so hard, simply reading this topic ;) )
14 seconds to boot...

What else to say ?!

Thanks oddbot for the app and NeoStuey for the step by step !

EDIT : By the way, some apps refused to start with my Gp2X cramf'd 0.0.4

ex: Gp2xEngine (just don't start anymore), skin selector (black screen after skin selection) and some others apps.

I'm back to Fw 1.4.0 with anger (just kidding; he !)

Sorry, but I really feel the implication, that others who can't get this to flash the Kernel, haven't read the topic... The point of the matter is: No it isn't hard when you have a compatible SD card.
But Yes it is annoying when everyone else can get it working and upon achieving their 12s boot time, spout some patronising comment.[/rant]

Well I finally gave in and just bought a new SD card that's compatible with the standard flashing method. This is awesome, thanks theoddbot :)

Thanks NeoStuey, i had really hard time to get it to work, but once i followed your steps it work great. It boots up in 13 seconds.

what do you mean by work? i didnt get any "fimware patching" screen like with GPH updates, but after booting the .IMG file had dissapeared, so it must have worked then deleted itself, i tried a few times.

boot time never changed

The .IMG file is automatically deleted when the flash doesn't work too eg if your SD card isn't compatible.

ive done normal firmware updates with my card so it surely is compatible

my card is compatible since the official firmware flashes with no problems and i get no error message with the compact one it just flashes then stalls on the splash screen

If it helps, I got the firmware upgrading message when I updated to the fast boot firmware.

Fast boot firmware is excellent! Boot time is 13 seconds for me. Thanks theoddbot! gngeo2x, DrMDx, mamegp2x, squidgenes all work for me. However, nkNES2x don't work. Anyone get nkNES2x to work with the fast boot firmware? or is it because it writes to NAND?

I haven't tried nkNES2x, however I've tried FCEU (working) Phamicom (not working) NESgp2x (not working) SNESgp2x (not working) NeoGeoCDgp2x (not working) SquidgeSnes (working) .. Plus a few of the ports, like Quake (yes) Falldown (no) Duke3d (no) noiz2a (yes)
That's a whole lot of non-functioning stuff according 2 me.
Maybe it's time to let all the coders know not to writie to the Nand..? o_O;

/a

Here's what I did to upgrade mine step by step.

thanks, though i cant be botherd moving everything off my sd card onto my hd reformatting and just putting the image on then copying it all back it takes too long which is the only thing i did differently since i just left everything on my card and copied the image over to the root

i'll stick with slow boot for now

Just a quick preview of what's in store for the next version :)

Also, I might switch to squashfs. I havnt tried it yet, but it produces images that are around 10% smaller and should be a bit faster.

We also have sshd, ftpd and a httpd if you want, it should all be user configurable and allow you to switch between net, serial and storage, but I think most people will go for the network because its the most flexible. Transfer speeds were around 1mbyte/sec which is not as fast as it could be I guess (still better than serial :)), since windows detects it as a 480mbps device.
That looks so exciting. Great work theoddbot
