One suggestion though, the lcd setting should not be on 1, maybe 4 or 5.
Agreed. I find the best results around just left-of-center. I guess it will be different for everyone, however . Does anyone know what file maintains that info? It could be cooked custom-like into the cramfs image.

I'd thought we were missing the drivers to the location that this information is stored somewhere on the i2c bus (an eeprom?).

I just found the missing drivers in the leaked kernel source, so I'll patch them in and see if it works.

Can this be used on any other firmware version such as 1.1 or 1.2?

edit: nevermind, its a rebuild of the version 1.4 firmware isn'it it? d'oh

Shouldn't they have released it?

It is my understanding of the kernel license that, if you build a piece of code with the kernel(ie. single file) you have to release the code. But, if you build it separately you don't have to release the code(Like nvidia, ati, and the madwifi modules do).

At least we have it from the old "leaked".

/me hopes that they don't change the too code much

edit: I should spell check my posts before submitting them. <_<

Yes they should have.

OK, I've got it to build, the device nodes are created and my LCD settings seem to be saved. If you want to test it drop by the irc channel.

Wow, nice work theoddbot, this seems very interesting. I can't wait to try it.

A (possibly stupid) question though, if the Nand becomes read-only, doesn't it mean that one can't install libraries like SDL anymore?

I've been meaning to ask but how long will updates take, and will they drain more power than usual?
If it's more than half an hour I'll get a cable, but my 2300mAh batteries should survive much longer than that :)
Plus were not writing to uboot so it should be unbrickable if they can't.

The SDL libs are included in the image already. There's instructions for creating a custom image if you need something more, or just let us know and it will find its way into the next release.

Is there a reason lrz is just a symlink to lsz? I seem not to be able to transfer files TO my GP2X
Ah sorry, I misread the docs, i thought they were the same binary. Will be fixed in the next release.

Can anybody lend me a serial cable? Something went wrong and I can't reflash the old firmware, just a firmware upgrading screen. Please PM me if you can help :) Thanks
Poor guy. Do you have an idea why the firmware bricked your unit? Maybe your experience could help other people to avoid such a misery.

The only thing abnormal was that my card was formated as FAT16. I was using the same card that had previously flashed the 1.4 firmware successfully when it was FAT32. This time it just hung on the firmware upgrading screen :(

I have since reformatted the SD as FAT32 but none of gp2xkernel files complete the upgrade. I have left them running for about 15minutes using a PSU, but no joy.

maybe add the usb mass storage drivers to the next release, so that if we get one of the usb cables people are making we can just plug usb storage devices into it?
