Hey folks,

I'd be interested in any date depending on the external power supply of the GP2X. How much milliampère does the console need? I could buy a cheap power supply with 500mA for like 10-15 euros, but I hread 500mA might be slightly to less.

Anyone can recommend me with serious information?
Haven't been able to find any data to rely on <_<

Thanks & Greets,
Pix

The GP2X uses ~500ma, so anything above that will be fine. Probably best off with 1A (1000ma) or higher though to be honest, then the 2x has room to move :)

Don't forget though - it needs a centre negative connection.

Thanks for the Information :)
You don't know, by any chance, what centre negative connection may be in German? Can anyone supply me with more information? Never heard that expression, atleast not in English :)

Is that some kind of a "stabilized" power supply, or just negative power-output?

See the diagrams here:

This is the symbol you should look for:

The German for it might be "Mitte negativ".

That is great, thank you for the support.
I guess a lot of people might be interested in this.
Those power supplies seem to be quite cheap anyway.

Even though, I can't find ANY power supply that's declared as Centre-Negative, can anyone recommend me one? Living in Switzerland (outside Europe <_< ), would be happy about any suggestions.

Greets,
Pix

I have a 300mA power supply, is that man enough for the job ? I can make the centre (TIP) negative easily enough on mine, but it would be a shame to ditch my power supply if it can power the unit .... (note: I haven't got mine yet so can't check but would like to remedy the situation prior to receiving the unit)

The manual that comes with the gp2x recommends a 1A power supply.

... 300ma are definitely not enough (= can't use the one for my gb pocket)

Amen to that, horrible scary buzzing sound and screen distortion when I tried a 300ma power supply on mine.

Question:

I know nothing about most things, particularly power supplies. I see that you can get regulated and unregulated AC/DC adaptors. Does the GP2X need regulated, unregulated, or either of the two?

On the power supplies I bought recently, you can remove the connector, turn it 180 degrees and re-attach it to choose between negative and positive centre.

Exactly like that. One side of the end cable has the word TIP written on it. The connector that plugs onto this has - on one side and + on the other. Putting the - next to the TIP means that it is now negative centre (or TIP)

that looks perfect. has option for 3volt :) is that the right voltage, squidge?

Hmmm, unregulated. Thats means the 3V could be 2V under load, or 6V when it feels like it, but normally averages out at 3V. Not good. Could upset the LCD and crash the processor.

Find a regulated one - not many actually manage a steady 3V unless you spend big, but at least they stay roughly within specifications :)

Uh... I'm not very clear on this subject but... I have an old GBA (original) power adapter (UK). Since GP2X uses 2 AA batteries, is it possible it would work...? OK, you probably can't just work it out by the batteries, but will an old GBA AC to DC power adapter work? It's just a plug block, with a wire, and it has a metal bit on the end (a short cylinder with a diameter of maybe... 3mm? That's just a guess- haven't uswed it in ages). You have to put a special block into the battery cavity, and then the end of the cable goes into the back. AFAIK, the actual cable itself has the adapter in, not the battery block, though I'll have to try to dig it out and take a look.

Sound good? :s
