lantronix.com has a yummy little number called an X-Port, a web server and ethernet to serial port connection. I am investigating a unit for my work which also means I take it home to play with. Did I mention that it equires 3.3v (from the GP32) and is only a little bigger than an RJ45 socket. Most realistic Ethernet adaptor for GP32 that I can find, now I just need a plug for the EXT port and help with some software. :D

Then the gp32 could be used as a hacking tool, pretty cool.

we could even have a server with all the latest apps that updates it automatically when plugged into an ethernet.

Could also be use as an authentication device, because each gp has a unique id.

Hacking? lol, what a wally!
With a terminal emulation it'll do telnet type stuff and file downloads, so think about porting Kermit or similar stuff. Games over the net should work. But if the original worked with a modem then we may have an easy route to networking.

battery drain is going to be a KILLER! Some tests at the moment have a battery life of minutes, not hours. For those interested, I'll put up a web page soon. :(

Well it's heading towards a GP32 powered RS232 interface, and a seperately powered RS232 Serial to Ethernet box. This allows developers the freedom to use dial-up modem type protocols to connect GP32s directly, via modem or via ethernet. It also allows connection to the web, telnet, ftp etc. CAUTION the hardware is easier to build than the software, don't expect a web browser anytime soon.

Wanted, a simple dumb terminal app (tty emulation) for the GP32, help!

Well Darkfaders site has the plans for a cable and a terminal app for the gp32 u could try that.

what im gonna try is build a cable to the serial port on my pc the have software that sends the serial data through the internet to another persons pc whicht hen sends that data to there gp32

so when both RF compatable games want to send data it does :) and cause of the speed of the RF link the pc with 56k modem should be fast enough for a no slowdown internet play ;)

i have the plans to make the cable just no money to buy the parts but i still have to find the parts which will let me buy them in australia :(

if you find a source of the plug in Australia, then please post a note about it, I'm in Melbourne. I'm considering moding the GP32 to add a 2.5mm socket for an RS232 connection, cause I can fit the required chip inside the GP32, and just wire in 4 wires. Still in the planning stage, but it means that I don't have to find the original plug, and less chance of stuffing up the GP32. I think the chip I need is a MAX3233E, which give me RS232 and uses 3.3 volts from the GP32.

As NeoAP said, Samsung do indeed use the same ext port on some of their phones, but in my case the cable is serial not usb. The phone I have is a T100, but I'm sure other models must use the same cable. I've no idea if those phones or spare cables are available in Australia though.

update
Half of the hardware works, RS232 to Ethernet, and connections using modem AT commands to other computers on a LAN. It will allow connections across the internet, depending on ISP etc.

The next part is the RS232 to GP32. It all should work, but I am seriously considering the fitting of a chip and small, EASY to GET, plug and socket, just a 3 wire connection.

From a software point of view, the default serial speed is 9600, but from there you can set speed up to 230kbps. The set up between two units would be a simple connection using AT commands and the IP address of the target. The target gets a RING message and then is connected. From there on it acts like a serial link, like a copper pair. Pass whatever messages you may require. The will be practical issues that will come to light but only when I get a working terminal app for GP32 and the interface install into my GP32.
