Dosbox Games You're Looking Forward To

Here's a true gem: God of Thunder
And best of all, nowadays it's freeware !!

Although, I think it's better with keyboard... But I still recommend it.
 I played the heck out of the demo version as a kid! Why didn't anyone tell me it's freeware now? This gains an instant spot on my "must play" -list.

I played Crusader: No Remorse on my cousin's Sega Saturn, but I don't remember getting much further than the first level. I would love to play that again. Also, Fantasy Empires.

I'd love playing the crusader games (there were three if I remember correctly), but I don't think P can churn enough cycles :(

Dark Forces <- one of the top games of the 90s

I'm also keeping an eye on this engine: http://darkxl.wordpress.com/ and hoping it will become open source one day

F-111 Stealth Bomber .. I think it was a Novalogic game, can't quite remember so far back, but I played the hell out of it ..

I think they are to heavy weight, but we'll see:

Tex Murphy Series (3: Under A Killing Moon, Pandora Directive, Overseer)
Gabriel Knight 2
LBA2
and other real video games..

But what surely works (in fullspeed)

The Game Of Robot
GODs
Jill Of The Jungle
Prince Of Persia 1 & 2
Hanse
Rick Dangerous 1
and that kind of games..

What probably works (in fullspeed)

Alone In the Dark
Tex Murphy 1 & 2
LBA
Rick Dangerous 2
Duke Nukem 3D (and games which based on same graphic engine like Shadow Warrior)
and that kind of games..

For fans of real video adventures

The Dame Was Loaded
http://www.adventuresplanet.it/scheda_recensione.php?url=/scheda_recensione.php&game=SIGCAL32

Minimum: 486/33MHz

I managed to start it on a hacked PSP under Dosbox, but the videos didnt play properly - I didnt see anything. But I was in the game somehow which was quite slow. Perhaps its playable on the Pandora ..

PS:

How much faster is the Pandora actually in comparision to a PSP? Not easy to compare I think..

IIRC the Pandora port of Dosbox was actually slower, due to the lack of the heavy optimization it had been done on the PSP version.

There's an easy way to find out.

Just grab a copy of DOSBox and try to run it at approximately 3000 or 4000 cycles. Note that whilst I may not be recalling the exact setting correctly, it should give you some idea, at least.

Cool, thanks Prometheus! I might end up spending all evening trying out every dos game I can think of

No problem. :D

I spent an hour or two doing that, a few months back (I don't have many MS-DOS games :p). Great fun.

I would like to mention Good Old Games as a great and legal source for some classic DOS games. They are not free (6 or 10$ depending on the game), but the great thing about GOG is that they have NO DRM AT ALL and that you can download your games as often as you like. Also, you get lots of bonuses like scanned manuals, soundtracks, artwork, etc.

Support them, so they can expand their catalog and help preserve gaming culture (and promote digital distribution without DRM).

Games using DOSBOX which I estimate will run well on Pandora (don't hurt me if they don't):
Battle Chess Special Edition
Betrayal at Krondor
Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold
Blake Stone: Planet Strike
Cannon Fodder
Castles + Castles 2
Capitalism Plus
Conquest of the New World
Constructor
Earthworm Jim 1+2
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers
Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within (Probably too demanding for Pandora)
Heroes of Might and Magic
Heroes of Might and Magic 2: Gold Edition
Ishar Compilation
Jagged Alliance
Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games
King’s Quest 4+5+6
Kingdom: The Far Reaches
Lords of the Realm: Royal Edition
M.A.X. + M.A.X. 2
Might and Magic 1+2+3+4+5+6
Patrician 1+2
Phantasmagoria (Probably too demanding for Pandora)
Realms of Arkania 1+2 (For German players: "Das Schwarze Auge - Die Schicksalsklinge" and "Sternenschweif")
Realms of Arkania 3 (For German players: "Das Schwarze Auge 3 - Schatten über Riva") (Probably too demanding for Pandora)
Red Baron 1+2
Redneck Rampage Collection (Probably too demanding for Pandora)
Robinson's Requiem Collection
Screamer (For German players: "Bleifuss") (Probably too demanding for Pandora)
Space Quest 4+5+6
Stonekeep (Probably too demanding for Pandora)
Tex Murphy 1 + 2
Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon
Tex Murphy: The Pandora Directive (Probably too demanding for Pandora)
Tex Murphy: OverSeer (Probably too demanding for Pandora)
The Incredible Machine Mega Pack
The Settlers 2: Gold Edition

Games using ScummVM:
Personal Nightmare
Waxworks
Simon the Sorcerer
Simon the Sorcerer 2
The Feeble Files (For German players: "Floyd: Es gibt noch Helden")
Teenagent (FREE DOWNLOAD!)
Lure of the Temptress (FREE DOWNLOAD!)
Beneath a Steel Sky (FREE DOWNLOAD!)
Broken Sword 2: The smoking Mirror (For German players: "Baphomets Fluch II: Die Spiegel der Finsternis")
Gobliiins pack (Gobliiins + Gobliins 2 + Goblins 3)

Games using other interpreters or having source ports available that can be ported to Pandora:
Descent + Descent 2
Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition
Rise of the Triad: Dark War

If this list ever gets outdated you can check this link:
GOG games that use DOSBox

The two first X-COM games are currently available from Steam, but I hope they will be added to GoG.com in the near future (this would have the advantage of no DRM compared to Steam):
X-COM: UFO Defense
X-COM: Terror From the Deep

Also on Steam is the id Super Pack which includes all the classic id Software games for which interpreters exist:
-Commander Keen
-Wolfenstein 3D & Spear of Destiny
-Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom
-Quake 1+2+3 + expansions (note: CD music is missing!)
-Heretic
-Hexen + Hexen 2 + expansions (note: CD music is missing!)

Some games still have the very old "look in the manual and enter the word found on page X, line Y, word Z", but for these games they include a download of either the manual, or more often a text file with all the words you just look up.
