Both games you mentioned have been released as freeware by their rightsholders. That is not the same as "abandonware". Legally, there's no such thing.Spinja said:I think all these games are abondonware
There's no such thing as "abandonware." It's not a legit label for old software for you to get your hands on, it's a term people came up with to rationalize distributing ROMs without permission.Spinja said:I think all these games are abondonware and can be downloaded freely on the net if you want to give any a try.
Sounds great. Pretty much how I expected it to work.skeezix said:Dosbox is usually configured to mount a directory as drive C.. I just setthe conf to be /dosbox on the sd.. So the pnd Included the emu and some

I agree, it's morally wrong and I said do some research first. Really, you can't justify it by crying preservation because it has already been preserved by someone if you're downloading it obviously.Wheels said:Most of the time the music industry won't come after you at all either, but that doesn't make it alright to swap tracks over Usenet.
The point is that "abandonware" isn't really an out if you care about copyrights at all. Seeing as how copyright is the only thing that, among other benefits, makes GPL and open-source licensing work, I'd rather support it and try to change the ridiculous bits through legitimate means than ignoring it whenever it'd be convenient for me. I'd also rather people didn't get the wrong idea about how it works.

The site claimed to be more of a museum than a download site, offering what were by them considered "great" games that never received due attention upon their initial releases. It was also asserted that the site was careful about copyright concerns, so if a game available for download became once more available for purchase, or if a game's copyright holder so requested, the downloadable files were removed and replaced with a link to the site selling the game, if applicable. The site has also removed a number of ESA/IDSA members' titles from its download archive.

Are they games that they're legally allowed to redistribute?jb0yx said:Look around, there are still plenty of good games for download directly from their site.
