Mine doesn't.... The fast SCUMM doesn't work, neither does the 24fps GPcinema.... or 60fps GPEngine

How common are these overclocking Screen Fryup situations - has it happened to you?

I see it as a blessing in disguise having one that won't overclock. There isn't a chance of running some bit of software not knowing that it's overclocking and burning out the display.

I use to play SCUMMVM on my old GP32 not knowing that it was running at 165Mhz. At least now it just cuts out.

Wouldn't mind trying 24fps GPcinema mind....

I risked it before it was known that it killed the LCD - mine runs the things fine for about 15 mins then promtly overheats. Unless its not using the whole screen, in which case its fine for substantially longer. But it doesn't anymore because I won't let it - not risking nasty LCD death, thank you very much...

What happens when the LCD frys up?

Has it ever really happened, it's almost like an urban myth. You would have thought it was more likely that the processor would just burn out.

So have none of you ever tried SCUMMVM.fxe? It worked nicely on my old GP32. the 132Mhz version has choppy, crackly sound.

so what is the MAX Mhz to run my gp32 at (obviously the safest is the stock speed)

it's not an urban legend you idiot.

because you didn't witness it or investigate enough doesn't mean it's possible.

it's a portable cpu with no cooling device, and the video bus is maxed out, wtf do you expect ?

There is no seperate LCD controller chip. The LCD controller is part of the ARM CPU. It's conectors are more prone to overheating than the CPU. By the time the CPU shuts down, the LCD controller may allready have fried. It's common sense, not an urban myth.

Hm.... I bet I could buy some microfans and do some cooling mods.... (One of my bro's ANCIENT routers uses two of them, tiny jokers.

Thanks for the info!!

Special thanks to the one and only atrkidd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will my GP32 runa piece of software that overclcoks it to 166?!? Surely the software has some sort of warning in it that its changing the clock speed? ;)!

Or wil teh 32 just refuse to play it at all|?

Oh, it'll run it straight away - there's no warnings unless they're built into the software. But there's so little that uses 166MHz that you're unlikely to go there anyway.
Most programs say the speed in the readme...
