COVID-19 / Coronavirus Pandemic

There is no way of giving 6 doses per year to everyone. We're using COVID vaccines since roughly one year and according to WHO we've given one dose per capita (unequal: some people got 3 some got 0, some got them unwillingly, some still wanting them). It's not like we've not tried. The efforts to produce, distribute, advertise and dispense COVID-19 vaccines has been enormous, even reducing the capability for other medecines. Even if there's room for improvement, we're not getting 6 doses per year. Not even 3.

They want rich countries to vaccinate often because (pharma wants money and) that keeps people with high levels of antibodies, and that helps somewhat to prevent infection and therefore transmission. Once time passes without seeing the vaccine or virus, the body may keep memory of how to produce antibodies, but it makes little sense to keep "doped" with lots of antibodies for a single antigen. So the body waits until it sees the virus and then builds up a new arsenal of antibodies (when the vaccine works). This buildup time may be short enough to prevent hospitalization and death, but long enough to allow transmission. (there're other means of immunity besides antibodies, but the studies measure antibodies more easily).

But stopping transmission by having rich people constantly high on antibodies doesn't work, because we don't have the capacity to do it with the whole world, so the virus mutates on unvaccinated people and scapes the antibodies of the vaccinated people. To adapt vaccines they claim they need 2 or 3 months, but it should really be longer with proper trials, so new versions take longer than the infection protection from one vaccine version lasts. So we have recently vaccinated people spreading mutated variants if they escape the vaccines, people vaccinated since longer than two months spreading both old and new variants and unvaccinated people spreading everything and filling hospitals and graveyards.

We need to stop transmission with restrictions (for everyone), contact limitation, masks, soap, ventilation, etc. and use the time to vaccinate all who want to worldwide. The less viral load circulating the fewer mutations. It's basically 0-COVID policies worlwide until we get better vaccines and treatments or the virus disappears (unlikely).

Totally unrelated to this topic, but I wondered: What did they tell people before they were send to a camp?
In the Dutch camp, which sounds like a more luxury camp, they apparently said:
"The subterfuge maintained the illusion that the camp’s inmates were sent to work camps, giving them hope and an incentive to comply with orders that helped ensure Westerbork’s deadly efficiency..."
Source (2017): https://www.haaretz.com/world-news/...ore-sending-them-to-the-death-camps-1.5492545
One other note on the bottom of the article: "When disaster happens slowly, in installments, people have a tendency to accept each installment".
For southAmerican Junta's in the 70'ties (trained in the School of the Americas) the methods have changed since the 40'ties: Rally them up. At meetings, or at home, when they are sleeping. First you send them to a nice resting camp. Wait until family/friends come asking for them. If they have contacts, monitor them for outside information. If not being contacted, move prisoner to torture camp to extract even more information (where communists squealed like pigs and socialists did snitch less or not at all). If the prisoner talks, but has more potential information, move it temporally back to the nice camp as a reward. For the other group, once the visit frequency is established, you have a few golden days where you can move the prisoners to that other camp to put pressure. Don't hurt their face, relatives will be upset.
If no-one asks for the prisoner, and all information has been extracted, terminate the individual to make room for more prisoners. Evidence was dumped at sea (fishes will eat the carcass and not return the bodies).

Seeing, in present time, how they invade houses of people that start up a demonstration group on Facebook, all contacts are already identified, so there is not much to interrogate, unless you are a leader of some sorts. As all communication is done on social, which can be tapped easily now.

Of course, what will happen, all is written down already. See part 1 and 2:

Yes there is... have LESS people to give doses to.

Fuck.

Nevertheless, a few things that are worthwhile noting are that you would expect a vaccine response to mimic an infection, no? And they said that the method behind their comprehensive study is not one that has been carried out on vaccine studies before (so it’s important that other labs are able to reliably repeat their methods to confirm either way). Also, unless I misread it, the cohort size is quite small (though their results were backed up by multiple clinical studies) and it’s only one of the many vaccines (seemingly not a mRNA vaccine but deactivated virus - a vaccine in the sense of the term as we knew it before Covid-19).

Fuck.
Reading it yet... Study on less than a dozen subjects. Vaccine was CoronaVac (ViroCell), not allowed in the EU. I've now read Coronavac dessisted or the EMA rejected Coronavac in October ????
For now it seems interesting though. Wishing the same was done on more people and more vaccines.

Good news everyone!

Prior infection doesn't prevent you from getting reinfected by Omicron.
Ah, that's bad news actually... but it means previous variants didn't have this.

Conclusion: "Population-level evidence suggests that the Omicron variant is associated with substantial ability to evade immunity from prior infection. In contrast, there is no population-wide epidemiological evidence of immune escape associated with the Beta or Delta variants. This finding has important implications for public health planning, particularly in countries like South Africa with high rates of immunity from prior infection. Urgent questions remain regarding whether Omicron is also able to evade vaccine-induced immunity and the potential implications of reduced immunity to infection on protection against severe disease and death."

Remember the Documents from pfizzer will be released by 2076? Well, the first installment is in!

sued and managed to force Pfizer to release data. So they did:

very juicy info... it checks out.

Pity that it has to come from a site that seriously believes Trump’s collusion with Russia is a “fairytale”...(the banner across the top of the page - you can’t miss it)

Seems fair enough. Of 42068 cases of infection during the 90 day long test, only 1223 died, although it's fair to note that there are inconclusive or no notes from 9400 people.
That’s assuming none of these statistics were altered (as in the case of the lady who was sacked the day she reported Pfizer’s subcontractor to the FDA...)

These are numbers of side-effects of the vaccine in the first 90 days, if I read the report correctly. Please correct me if I'm wrong ;)

The statement they made on Pfizer website: "No serious safety concerns were observed in trial participants..."
Source: https://www.pfizer.com/news/press-r...biontech-confirm-high-efficacy-and-no-serious

Compare that to historical (1997–2013) results for vaccines:
"VAERS received 2149 death reports, most (n = 1469 [68.4%]) in children. Median age was 0.5 years (range, 0–100 years); males accounted for 1226 (57%) reports. The total annual number of death reports generally decreased during the latter part of the study period. Most common causes of death among 1244 child reports with available death certificates/autopsy reports included sudden infant death syndrome (n = 544 [44%]), asphyxia (n = 74 [6.0%]), septicemia (n = 61 [4.9%]), and pneumonia (n = 57 [4.6%]). Among 526 adult reports, most common causes of death included diseases of the circulatory (n = 247 [46.9%]) and respiratory systems (n = 77 [14.6%]), certain infections and parasitic diseases (n = 62 [11.8%]), and malignant neoplasms (n = 20 [3.8%]). For child death reports, 79.4% received >1 vaccine on the same day. Inactivated influenza vaccine given alone was most commonly associated with death reports in adults (51.4%)."

Note that this single vaccine compared to all other vaccines has 1223 reported deaths (worldwide) in 90 days compared to 2149 deaths from all other vaccines in 16 years in US.
While in total that is still probably going to be a really small number and these low numbers probably still label it as safe, compared to the expectation of existing vaccines this number is much higher.
Under normal circumstances I wouldn't expect this vaccine to stay public, but I guess these times call for more drastic measures.

On top of that this vaccine is specifically aimed at original Covid and there is a specific vaccine made for the Delta variant. They are probably also going to make specific ones for the Omicron variant.
Which vaccine are we going to get if you get one now, as first or as a booster, to fight off Omicron?
Probably the original one, as it's the only one available to the public. And it's very effective against the original, a bit less against Delta and for Omicron I don't know yet. But if Omicron by-passes natural immunity, I wouldn't be surprised if the current vaccine is also less effective.
So the current vaccine is the best we have, but it might be less effective and it would have been nice if the actual side-effect data was public so we could make a good decision if it's worth getting vaccinated (again) and possibly vaccinate children.
Hopefully Omicron is the lightest variant so the impact will be that a lot of people will get natural immunity, including already vaccinated people. So Omicron might do what the vaccines couldn't, immunize everyone, and hopefully cause it to be the last variant. (Wishful thinking :p)

a fascist.
Thank you for singling me out! Am I special?

How will the come knocking? Maybe like this:

I am now definitely afraid of fear.
Well, that part is what make scary movies work. Just some ominous music, and innuendo but nothing happening makes you jumpy. But there is fear (good, keeps you alive) and irrational fear (bad, makes you dangerous). That irrational fear is toiletpaper wars in supermarkets, for example.

Viruses can combine after all, apparently. COVID-19 and the common cold have made the common COVID.
Yes, although it depends on someone catching both diseases at once, and a cell getting infected by both types of virions before it bursts, resulting in both RNA fragments drifting about in the outer cell. The human DNA assembler might take either virons or both at different places in the genome, and result in a different ordering of all the fragments producing different amino acids, forming different proteins and different spikes around a different viral genome.

wow. seems like you guys are doctors or in medical school or something? so smart.

love this forum, it's so inclusive attracting retro gamers, portable hackers, medical luminaries, a few freedom zealots and a fascist.
Touché but to be fair, it’s in a well respected, peer-reviewed journal and the implications of the study’s discussion are fairly clear for someone at GCSE level to grasp, let alone fully grown adults. And there are undoubtedly a lot of intelligent people in this forum, including actual medical staff (not that I’m claiming to be either).

Well, there's good news. South Africa's daily case count only went from 16,055 yesterday to 16,366 today. It could just be that we've hit the slow part of the week for reporting though.
