I've just been nailed. I backed up 12GB of work (and Divx :)) and the crappy disks dont work anymore. Its just a real pain in the arse. Anyway to sum up, don't use cheapo DVD-Rs because it'll come round and haunt you.

For what its worth using Roadkil's unstoppable copier has helped me recover 10%. I'm just going to go have some frosties and chill out.

It was a 25 pack of PC-line courtesy of that craphole waste of space called PC World.

I've now bought some Sony's but had a power cut this morning so at least one of those is toast :(

I did have Paris Hilton encoded for GP Cinema - D'oh!

Have you tried recovering them via the DVD writer rather than a DVD drive (not sure of your system here) I had a friend that could not read some cheap DVDs on his DVD drive but his writer read them ok. Ignore me if you have no DVD only drive or you've tried this already ;)

yep. Tried all sorts of things. Even went out and bought a Skip Doctor. Didnt do anything though. :(

Currently my DVD ROM drive is taking the last hour to read one of the DVDs, it looks like its working (although very slowly).

My 8GB series of Mysterious Cities of Gold is safe on my HDD. I was worried about that the most.

As for spec: I have 8x Pioneer DVD +/- R and a 16x Pioneer slot in DVD Rom drive.

Novatech sell 25 DVD-R's for £5.... They Work perfect for Data Storage For me

Damn %$%^%&%$* !

(Looks to his right at the spindle of PCLine CDR's just carried home from PC World!)

Thanks for the warning anyway! ;)

Its ironic, but the PC line CD-Rs I bought four years ago are still functioning ok and are in my CD book (200 cds). But then its sods law that you cram 4.7GB onto a disk for it to f**k up.

Oh well... its not like I miss the Divx (well Paris, she'll always be in a special place). Its just some of the work dammit. oh and not forgetting Abi Titmuss and Jordan etc lol. ;)

Lol, is it all porn?!

Would this be the Abi titmuss and black chick and the jordan vid when he tries to shove his foot up her **** in the bath ).

Nope. (Whatever gave you that impression :D)

A lot of it was stuff from Euro 2004. Its annoying, but then I have a fast connection and redownloading some of it now.

If anyone ever wants a change from suprnova, then try out Youceff.

Had a similar problem! bought 25 printable DVD-R´s by the company "Speer" for 30€, and they are just crap! every video hangs on a certain time, and my UT2k4 backup didn´t work after 2 days. And there are NO scratches at alle on the fuckong disks! So what i did, was throwing away the 10 DVD-R i still had, a I bought a 10 DVD-R and a 10 DVD+R spindle by a company called "Intenso" for only 8,95€ and they work like a charm.

BTW: a buddy of mine bought the same DVD-R´s (the "speer" ones) and also hates them because they are SHIT! Don´t buy em!

you can be luckt with dvd-r and get a cheap bastch that is fine, but if you're looking at not being concerned with whether they'll work, get some ritek-dye based discs. they're a few quid more, but are one of the most reliable types.
