Hi there gamers,

I only use my GP2X for emulation and have never looked at the homebrew games, mainly for the fact that I assumed they were like substandard mobile phone games. I think I might be wrong though as there are a lot of good programmers out there.

What are your favorite homebrew games? I would like to try them out and see how good they can be.

Rockin'

Vektar is good, if you upgraded to firmware 2.0, it will already be on your nand.

Beat2x, Ladykiller, Methane Bros, SuperTux, CloneKeen2x (okay, not really homebrewn ;)), TileMatch, Vektar, Heroes2x, LevelShmup, Pang, Startrucker, Reminiscience (okay, also not really homebrewn).

Noiz2sa is one of my favorites. An abstract shooter and I even managed to finish all levels using stock stick. It so addictive...

As you all can see, almost all of the games mentioned are just remakes/ports . GP2X is only an emulation handheld, and the select few original homebrew games are buried deep inside the archive, maybe with 5-10 downloads each. The community has undermined those games with countless threads asking if the sound in some SNES game will work if you overclock the emulator to 266 mhz, etc. So if you want homebrew, get a GP32. GP2X offers next to none.

Sad, but true... especially the part about the countless questions, of which are more or less all answered atleast twice already... but you can`t say the gp2x is just for emus, let it get the age of the gp32, and there will be as much homebrew games.

Seconded. Noiz2sa is awesome and I can't recommend it enough. It would be sweet to see that guy's other games get ported to our humble handheld but I guess a lot of them use OpenGL. :(

No - it's so crazy that it's awesome!

QFT.

But whats stock stick?

The one you get with GP2x.

GP2x is more media oriented with its video and audio capabilties. And because it's running common os (the Linux) it will not be that unique in a content like GP32 is.

It's bad or it's good? It's both.

Noiz2sa is showing that graphic isn't alone making a game. Not it's not very good technically but it's quite amazing how game using simple rectangles can be fun.

Spout - amazing game, it's gotten many positive comments from people I've let play it

xRick - not really homebrew but it's an awesome game

and I think everything else has been mentioned, but those are the two most played non-emulators I have

With the GP2X, there's a huge amount of opportunity for original games, thanks to Linux. People who simply wouldn't have bothered before are getting up and making some really nice games. The ease of porting does little to deter this, and in fact I see it as more of a benefit.
