Can Gp2x Overclock?

Its fine if people want to mod the Gp2x, but hopefully the devs will push the system to its limit w/o needing hardware mods. This thread gives me bad feelings, like the Gp2x is already not good enough...

I'm not saying experimentation isn't good, but I don't want to have to depend on some hardware mod that I can't do my self to do something that the devs could have done in software but just didn't figure it out because they didn't have to. See what I mean?

And it was actually still functioning at similarly high temperatures, or the machine was just left on well after the core had frozen and temps were mounting?

Well, it takes about a second for the application to crash, and then a few seconds after that for the chip to totally fry itself, and it just sits there smoking...

Here's a video: http://www12.tomshardware.com/images/thg_v...cpu_cooling.zip

It shows that literally, within a few seconds, temperatures are ~300c.

No-one is talking about hardware mods. Overclocking is done in software. The gp32 hardware mods were only done to make higher overclocking more stable, and most gp32's can overclock to around 160mhz without any mod. I imagine the gp2x will be very similar.

It may not be that simple. Remember it is not just a CPU in there but a whole bunch of other stuff. If you overclock who knows how that will effect video etc.

The video etc clocks are all based off one master clock, and that is the one you modify when you overclock. The gp32 is the same, there is a cpu clock, memory clock, and perhiperal clock, and they are all based off one clock (usually the memory is 1/2 the cpu for example).

Oi!

Um.. i just thought that the only real use for the gp2x is fullspeed snes emu and more MEMORY. and maybe even a 32x or seg cd emu. Gba..

Thats all there is... if people say that psx or n64 cant run.

Overclock mite lend us a hand in psx and n64?

Neo geo is way more doable than 32x and Sega CD. You also seem to forget MAME games and CPS2 emulation. PSX will be doable, in some way. But i don't garantee it will be playable (and i don't say it won't be either).

A particlur type of arcade board for Capcom. I beleive it had games such as the Xmen/Marvel/Vs series, the Alpha series, Gigawing... there is a list somewhere...

cps2 games are awesome - no more so than Street Fighter 2

(starts humming title theme tune - da da, da, da, da da)

The only question is: who will be the first to try out the pencil trick ;)

My money's on Trooper. :)
Mine also :D

How many gp32's did he break, again? (I can't quite remember  )
Well, it was for a good cause, sorta. At least a couple people have benefited from his tests.........I think...........

What is the pencil trick? (I know little about the gp32)

I never understand how you overclock with software, how does that work. I understand hardware overclocking, were you move transisters around or something.

Check out THIS thread. I tried it and after messing around with it for quite a while I managed to bump my gp32 from 156mhz to 166mhz. But, if i had the choice, i wouldn't do it over again. Its simply too unpredictable for me.

i got my 166 system up to a stable 220 and it has never had any problems. It really is a benefit when using 0snes9x.

Although say goodbye to decent battery life

Well, My GP2x is pre-ordered, So you never know, I could be the first. :D

Btw: Only one dead GP32 so far, The other two (both original Blu`s) are still running great, Especially the "pencil tricked" Blu, Still does 204mhz without any problems, And still haven`t had to open or reapply any lead since i did the "trick" all thoughs months ago.

Actually the console games are the clones... The arcade games 99% of the time came first, then got ported to consoles because they were popular.

CPS2, as someone else said, is the hardware that many of Capcom's 2D fighting games (and some non fighters) were created on. Stuff like Marvel Vs. Capcom, Darkstalkers, Street Fighter Alpha etc.

See here for more info: http://www.system16.com/capcom/hrdw_cps2.html

arcade game clones are few and far between.

f-15 strike eagle and thunderforce 3/ac are a couple which went from home to arcade.
