They are both the same but lets face it that is just a nasty choice.

All for £632 its cheaper and its better(I've give you a breakdown if you want). The only way the mesh computer is better is XP Pro as opposed to home but I suspect you personally would not know the difference. IMO XP Pro should only be used at home if its stolen.

Oh I choose a widescreen as well becuase they are coming in :D . I know someone who has just bought this and is very happy.

PS. If you really went for my choice get a lazer mouse at the same time the one it comes with its nasty,nd one of then usb floppy drives just in case.

Also I need PRO for various reasons. Homes network support is just terrible. And I know a thalon 64 3500+ is better than a 2.8 pentium 4 but not at video editing but i mean its a dual core pentium D. Meaning its basically two pentium 4 prescott cores. Wouldn't that be better?

I use professional at home, but then again...

The difference between home & pro is inconceivable. I'm not actualls sure what the difference is except for a fish screensaver which came with pro. Anyway, pro is now playing second best to ubuntu linux.

I could build my own but Im getting one basically half payed for by someone else assuming its prebuilt and comes with warranty and both the two I posted, AMD and Intel, seem a fair price.

You should look at the differences with HOME networking between machines and understand the differences. Becuase there isn't one. Is dual core better than single core yes indeedy it is, and then there is a but. You've just bought the processer, thats the cost, everything else is bargin basement. You've got an onboard graphics card and monitor with a 16ms responce time, your putting all your eggs in one basket. Its a nasty machine. If the CPU is the draw and it well could be if Video editing is the only thing its being used for. You'd be better looking elsewhere.

People still buy premade computers

They are cheaper or cheap as DIY machines, without the hassle and MATCH. The exceptions in the DIY market, is custom overclocking and linux, and now those areas are being addressed. I'm increasingly seeing Linux machines admittedly on the lower specced machines, and overclocking is becoming a standard for many manufactures. I always built my own ever since the 486 came out, but I've had this machine for a couple of years and know that if it breaks I can buy a *better* machine for £150 http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=89079

All 3 AMD's I have had overheated though or had compatibility issues. However the rest of the AMD pc is far superior. But wouldn't the AMD at 2.2ghz compared to basically two P4 prescotts at 2.8ghz be crapper at some stuff. Especially running vista. Also it comes with media centre edition. Does that have normal XP functionality?

It's fairly obvious that AMD is far superior.

Please don't buy cheap Intel P4 Duals !
It is true that AMD's like Thunderbird tended to overheat but it's all different now, the Athlon 64 do generate far less heat than the P4 at the same performance level!

About the clockspeed:
AMD uses lower clockspeeds but get's the same performance, this is because the P4 Prescott is based on the old NetBurst design and thus has got very long pipes but is capable of faster clockspeed, this is why it can operate at 3.8GhZ compared to AMD's speediest 2.4GhZ, but they still got the same performance (btw new AMD CPUs always have 64bit).Problem: At high clockspeeds you don't get much performance gain with P4 and it's extremely hot!

If you really want dualcore get an Athlon X2, it has got all extensions and is based on AMD64.

EDIT: As far as I know Windows Home is crippleware, the only difference between Pro is a registry entry, then you have almost the same functionality. They both won't have problems with vista (are you sure you want that OS btw?) but you will need a decent 3D integrated chip or any discrete graphics card to use the "fancy" Aero Glass.
But XGL is better anyways ;) http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=xgl+linux

hmmmmmmmmm, but two prescotts at 2.8*2 = 5,6ghz not 3.8? and the athlon runs at 2.2 ghz also does Windows Media Centre have normal xp functionality?

... Look, DualCore is only useful for multitasking and applications which can take real advantage out of it already (like video editing as you mentioned)...

The 3.8GHZ are the most a Prescott is sold at.

P4 Dual: two prescotts at 2.8*2 = 5,6ghz

Yes, true, as I said, you can get an Athlon X2 as well, added up it will for sure have a lower clockspeed, but there are CPU's equivalent to this one sold by AMD.
