Best Commodore 64 games

One of my favorite C-64 games is Below the Root.

An excellent adventure game with a large world both above and below ground to explore. Great character movements and story line.

Currently shuffling my way through Atomix. It's basically a block shuffling game, but I'm finding it quite compelling and well designed. The whole thing is very polished for it's time!

Can't believe nobody has mentioned The Last Ninja series, Creatures 1 & 2, Retrograde, or IK+ ;)

Also love the original Football Manager, despite not being the slightest bit interested in football.

I've not tried it on the Pandora yet, but this - http://noname.c64.org/mood/ - was an incredible feat

Rick Dangerous, Rick Dangerous II

Way late with my reply, but I loved "Rick Dangerous". Nothing to do with attending the launch party for the game at Warwick Castle which was the one and only time I saw a benefit from working in a computer retail shop!

I think my favorites on C64 have not been mentioned here:

  • The Sacred Armour of Antiriad
  • Dragon's Lair II

Sorry, can't post images because most of the games sites are banned at my work network

C64 was, and will probably always remain my favourite computer system. It is indeed why I wanted a Pandora, a portable C64 is a childhood dream, now it's come true. Here's some games I really think are worth checking out, in no particular order:

Buggy Boy

Batman

Turbocharge

Dizzy (Yolkfolk is a good one to start with, Magicland is the best)

Spindizzy

Tilt (codemasters, once you get used to playing it's addictive)

Project Firestart

Bubble Bobble

Rainbow Islands

Creatures

Creatures II

Mayhem in Monsterland (over rated, but still great)

Sensitive (A PD game, some good clones on the Plus4 machine too)

Leaderboard Golf

IK+

Paradroid

Pitfall 2

The Sentinel

Newcomer Enhanced (change drive settings to get it working)

Live and Let Die (buggyboy in a boat)

Pang

Lode Runner

Space Rogue

Midnight Resistance

Krackout

Racing Destruction Set

X-Out

Mercenary

OK, there should be at least 3 games out of that lot to keep you occupied for a while.

Ok heres my top 10

1)Delta easily the best shooter on the 64.

2)Wizball this really needs a proper sequel

3)Beachhead brilliant for its time

4)Bubble bobble best arcade conversion ever

5)Katakis second to delta on the shooters

6)Leaderboard uped the stakes as far as sports games went

7)Last ninja way ahead of its time

8)International Karate beter than WOTEF

9)Raid over Moscow Access should have stuck to original games

10)Mega Appocalypse manic brill cc remix by hubbard

My 2 cents:

Park Patrol

Bounty Bob Strikes Back!

Dropzone

I'd have to say-

BoulderDash

Impossible Mission (completed many, many times on a number of formats)

Monty On The Run

Uridium

Paradroid

SEUCK

Thing On A Spring

Bounder

IK+

WizBall

KikStart

ColorBind

... to name just a small selection of faves.

YES!!! Thank you so much, I've been looking for this for YEARS! But i had absolutely no idea what it was called or how to describe it in a way anybody understood which game I meant... Now I can *finally* play it again and maybe finish it...

Heh, as I was about 6 years old when I played C64 games there are a lot of games I'm looking for for which I don't know the name, and the screenshots on e.g. lemon64 don't always help...
