I've been calling my apps "apps" since long before Apple did. I think it was ~2005 when I renamed Program Files to Apps.
Hehe, I hate to tell you this, but Apple's been using the ".app" extension (analogous to the ".exe" of Microsoft Windows) since they launched Mac OS X. :p That's where their usage of the term "apps" originates, as far as I'm aware. But I'm pretty sure I've heard it before then, even.
Programs have been called applications on Macs for as long as I know, I had a Preforma 630 (I think that's what it was called) waaaaaay back.

@Awakening - I didn't know they'd been using the ".app" thing for that long. My bad.

It shall be called the Porndora AssStore and it shall contain all the filth that Apple rejects. That will totally drive sales.

The term App has never been a Mac Exclusive term. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_software.. Actually I remember hearing this term prob as early back for PC as 1989... Back in 1997 when I got my first CD burner I used to back up my downloads on CDs I labeled "Games Apps and Misc".

I have a suggestion, how about something Pandora (legend) related but in ancient Greek! (translated to English, if that makes sense).

And also, Craigix if you are reading this would you mind telling us what design layout you went with for the store please? :D

And I've been calling them apps for over a decade.

My point was that I think of all programs as "Apps". Do they really have a trademark on "App Store"?

My problem with appstore: it's not a store. In a store, you have a shopkeeper that determines what's sold and what's not. We don't. Everyone's allowed to dump their PND's in there. That's more like a bazaar.
So, let's call it PNDazaar :)

I really hate names that are hard to pronounce and have no connection to actual words. Unless you know what they represent, and are fluent in the same language, they leave you scratching your head.

If I hadn't heard of PND files, I'd see that and think "PN Dazaar - wth?"

Pandora Bazaar, I might go for. Especially it's renamed Pandora BAZAAARR!!!! on April 1st and has that Spartaa guy's head in the corner shouting. ;) Just don't shorten the name into something really ugly like so many linux projects do.

I've never called my Apps "Applications", though. ;)

See, I'm hip. Years ahead of apple! :p

Random related fact: I have a 3-volume dictionary in my bookcase. Those things are heavy. If you hit someone over the head with one of them, they'd probably get a concussion.

Good to know. I was probably influenced by those early DOS titles as well.. I have fond memories of Raptor.

We might just go ahead and call it AAARR!!! since some people are convinced pandora supports piracy.

mkay, not funny.

They didn't use .app before. I don't recall whether or not they used .xxx on any files at all back then, that dates back to the old MSDOS 8.3 naming format.

it's not app exclusive and it's not a (retail) store?

erm the only this not app related is maybe firmware downloads and maybe themes/skins the rest will be applications for the panda.
it will also sell premium content too eventually when theres a market for such things

i admit i dont see the app part lasting long in its title before it has to be changed but thats really just a minor portion of having a reliable place for our panda downloads.
its something that can be changed within an hour and not make a huge difference. pndstore or "pandora place for downloads and maybe buying applications thing" has a nice ring to it
