I remember when I bought Duke Nukem 3D, the disc had a few shareware Apogee games on it, and I think C-Dogs was one them, as was Rise of the Triads. Now that we have those wonderful dogs, what do you suppose the chances of the other games from that disc could be ported? Terminal Velocity and Wacky Wheels were the best ones I can remember at the moment... It's worth a go, no?

Ports, unfortunately, require source code, so they aren't really feasible.

On the other hand, by all means feel free to write to Apogee (or 3D realms now, I suppose), and request the respective sources, you might get them. I doubt it, but it's possible.

You won't get the source from Apogee, since Apogee never owned the rights to those games. The creators of the games still own the rights. Apogee was just a distributor. I know because my old boss still owns the rights to Halloween Harry.

Cheers, Halloween harry was one of my faviuot games of the time. (Any chance in convincing him to release the source) ;)

Actually I think it would be more reasonable to think about writing an interpreter for some of the apogee games. They did it already with commander keen 1-3 right? You couldn't possibly do this for terminal velocity I guess, but what about all those nice jump and runs that apogee distributed? Cosmo, Duke Nukem 1&2, Halloween Harry, Bio Menace etc... these games kicked ass. Is it possible to write game interpreters for these too or would it be a lot more hassle to go through than to do it with commander keen 1-3 ???

Halloween Harry was written in Turbo Pascal. And no, he won't release the source. I've tried to get it from him before, and that was when I was working with him. He is currently working with an independent developer on a new Harry title.

Interview with John Passfield, owner of the rights to Harry.

Talking about Apogee... I remember a game... *cough* Raptor *cough*... one of the best horizontal shooters ever...!!

Yeah, that was one of the other ones on that disc! I remember now, but wasn't it vertical, not horizontal?

it's a pitty, Death Rally from apogee is really nice too, but no source grgrrggr

no source, no gp32_console
I already asked Remedy Entertainment if they would release the sourcecode for Death Rally, but they say that they can't because they don't have the required rights to do this. Maybe the distributor (Apogee -> 3D Realms) can release the sourcecode, but I doubt they will do this :(.

What was the original sourcecode of those games, something like Pascal?
