Any Ebay Listings Yet?

I believe they can modify a pre-existing unit for you if you send it to them, if that helps. I almost had that done, but I just nabbed a Japanese unit and one of those region-unlocking cartridges from Play-Asia instead.

I live in the US, it would be very expensive for me to pay for shipping both ways to get a unit modded. Also, region-unlock is not the only thing I want, I also would like to play Panzer Dragoon Saga without spending $200. <.<

@ God

Thanks for that vid. :)
I don't like touching the insides of any of my consoles, but that vid just demonstrated the usefulness of hard-modification.
I might have to consider in the future.
Cheers.

From the comments thread of that video, I hear that the chip is fairly easy to install. Could you have it shipped to you and taken care of locally (or with your own two hands, for that matter)?

Yes, I've heard that it is a fairly easy mod to install. But I would rather pay for a guarantee that it will work rather than taking my own chances at it and possibly screwing it up.

What kind of mod is a Switchless Modded chip? And why the necessity for it?

This is a good video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BANoiSbGlQ

@Prometheus: Yes, like those. But they only have White Japanese in Stock. I'd prefer Black US.

You know where to go, ok.

P.S. Me.

If you're going to get a mod chip, don't get the one from racketboy (at least that's what I hear). The ones from consolegoods are supposed to be the way to go.

I got my Saturn a few months ago. I haven't had the time/money to go for the mod chip yet. I really want the memory expansions (always planned on having them) but I'm strapped for cash now...

The swap trick works very, very well. I have a Model 2 Saturn, so pay no mind to those who say the swap trick is too hard on newer systems.

I would be interested to know about doing a mod for SCART to VGA + 3.5mm stereo plug. My computer monitor would be a nice screen for playing on.

Hmm. Perhaps my unfounded confidence in you was...unfounded.

Well, if you could find a local solderer, I guess that would be worth a great savings.

There is a way to install the chip without soldering. I ended up soldering mine to one of the power pins just to be safe, BUT you can just jam it in there and it should hold itself in place if you don't move the Saturn around much. Other than that, you just have to plug in the ribbon cables in the right places. Easy stuff.

ugh... just posting here to share my disliking of Pandora's associated with ebay... ebay is one of those cesspits of the net... you just know everybody gets screwed (except ebay offcourse)

I know some customers ordered more than one Pandora(myself included), So I'm guessing we should see some auctions soon?
I hope not! So some sh*thead can make more money, people who actually want to use it have to wait longer to get theirs. It's just wrong. (nothing personal, this is only aimed at people who explicitly resell for profit)

hey, dude. did it ever cross your mind, that for some people the pandora might be obsolete after a 1.5 year delay? whenever someone asked on these forums if he should cancel the preorder, i always told them to hang on, support the project and auction it off on ebay after they got it. insulting these people is grossly unjust. they supported the project through thick and thin even if they had no need for the device anymore. what's more natural then than selling it?

I hope the eBay prices aren't too much of a rip-off, because I'd be super-pissed-off if I saw a Pandora selling for US $500 with US 100 shipping.

for you sony... i'd be willing to ship it to you for $500 with only $99.99 for shipping...

@hch: i agree with everything you said (at the post above me), but i think most of the people were complaining about how much a rip-off ebay has become. they steal your money from listing item fees, then from final value fees, and then the mandatory paypal fees. they are a monopoly that must be stopped! and until they are... i will continue to use them :D . maybe even my pandora if i feel dumb enough to do so...

I see no problem auctioning a device where people have wait a year and a half. I still think the Pandora is the only device of its kind. I'm tempted to just wait for psp2 though.

I'm a patient man after this project!

http://www.racketboy.com/ is the place to go for a modchip and it is really easy to install ,little no soildering needed ,i used to do them and sell them on ,but also the 60hz switch is pretty good ,region mod is the hardest but still easy.

I'm looking forward to the PSP2 also, as I'm sure it is going to be a beast. But don't plan on running any open source on it, I'm sure it will be locked tighter than fort knox. Sony complains all the time that the PSP lost out due to piracy, but it's easeier to pirate games and run homebrew on a DS, and that is almost the best selling system of all time(it may have over taken the PS2 recently). Sony lost out for many reasons, to many to list here, but piracy I'm sure was very low on that list. IMO!

I respectfully disagree. There has been absolutely nothing preventing someone from joining the queue. If someone bought 20 intending to sell 19 on ebay, that hasn't prevented 19 people that want one from ordering. There's not that much of a delay. At worst it should be one day, unless you're really really unlucky and happen to be position 1001-1019 and have to wait for the next run of cases.
Let me put it a different way: if this person hadn't bought 20 intending to sell 19, that's 19 more that OPT would not have sold, and 19 people who would not be getting one off of ebay. Would you deprive OPT of those 19 sales and those 19 people that missed all the preorders leading up to the release of a Pandora because you don't believe a single person should be selling them? If 19 people want to pay ridiculous amounts for a Pandora off ebay, why is it immoral to sell to them? That's how capitalism works.

^true dat. As an added bonus, a Pandora on eBay making a ridiculous amount of money is great publicity.
