Dont include emulators and make them downloadable. No console exept china clones comes with emulators of a device they dont own. Legal or not, it saves trouble. Im sure some prick will try to put you down with the small letters of the law that you didnt read.
So dont. Everyone here can download.
Oh and tell that you are not responsible for website content or a enemy will make use of that as well. Just say it is maintained by third partys and you do not control or take responsibility for the content.
My advice.....

I see now its all clear.

It would've been awesome if it was out of the box ready
But then again some critics use it as a comparison to Chinese KIRFs

So save time and dont toil with fate, just allow easy download from a "3rd party" site ;)

I think the Bleemcast! devs also had problems with this

Bleem actually won the case that Sony had against them, but they had to shut down because the legal fees destroyed them.

That is just silly. It is legal, so no point in not including emulators. That's just what they (the ROM companies) want and they do this by spreading fear onto everyone letting people think it illegal. Well I for one am sick and tired of those practices. If it's included it saves me time downloading the emulators because they come pre-installed. Being able to use the Pandora out of the box would be great and I'm not silently letting those 'criminals' spoil my fun once again.

Never heard of rom companies before...if you're referring to game developers who published the games you want to play by using emulators, then you're wrong. Emulation itself probably doesn't fall into their realm. The only thing they care about is whether roms of their games are available (and making ROMs available IS illegal by the way...).

If you're referring to the companies that made those game systems...I'm not really sure whether it's illegal. I don't think it's illegal to reverse engineer the systems, at least in the USA (Acclaim v Sega, I believe Acclaim won the case, so it set the precedent that reverse engineering is okay, but correct me if I'm wrong) but it may be illegal to emulate the system if you don't own the system. So, that's why it would be a problem for them to distribute emulators with the console itself - they can't assume you own all of the systems there are emulators for.

No I didn't.

Oh sorry *blush
Well your great you can still have the credit :p
It must've been another person with the alias "Exophase", I accidentally stumbled across it.
Actually I learnt of the Zaurus from one of these posts, and after Googling for what its capable of doing I saw "Exophase"

ed: found the link

There will definately NO emulators installed as default on the Pandora.

1. The Pandora is not a pure emulator device. Emulators are apps like games. Not every user wants to use up the NAND space with tons of emulators.

2. Including emulators will surely lead to the big companies trying to stop the Pandora. Definately.

3. Emulators will probably see a lot of updates - which is done easier with PNDs than always upgrading the OS on the NAND...

4. Customs stopped importing the Dingoo in Germany (I know at least one case) because it's a clone of Nintendo products. It can play Nintendo roms out of the box and looks similar. My guess is that without the emulators, it wouldn't be handled as a clone.

1. True. The basic OS on there is more than enough.

2. Will definitely happen if you put them on there. Bye bye OpenPandora within a few months.

3. The PND system is very convenient and easy to use. Solid invention that should be used for all the applications, games, etcetera.

4. That could have happened for various reasons. I bet the store make a lot more money on selling the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP. Could also be that the stores just don't sell enough of these Dingoo units. And there is also the fact that people just don't want to buy a Dingoo or a Wiz because it's not "the real one", like the DS or the PSP. I've heard such things hundreds of times. People handle these things just like "fake" cola.

It would be silly to put the emulators on there. You probably shouldn't even mention them in official literature, look at what happened to Nokia after showing the SNES emulator. Just say that applications and other such things can be found on the app store.

No, it was definately confiscated by customs. One from the German boards ordered from Asia and it happened.

If OPT included a PSX emulator with it, and Sony found out, they could just have their lawyers draw up some fancy documents, and stop OPT from producing anymore while it goes to court. Even if OPT won and proved they were doing nothing wrong, it would still take months or even years,...

I can wait. I did it for over 18 month... :)

Seriously, with the app-store it should be fairly easy to get the PNDed-Emus.
I only see slight problems for those, who have no WLAN at home. They have to buy a SD-Card reader.
Including the emus in the firmware would be a bad idea (an exception WOULD be an GP2x/ GP32 emu).
I am a ATARI guy thru and thru, however, I won't play 2600 games, for example.

EDIT: ED made it clear. The 2nd part of my post is just for your reading pleasure :)

Well I'm happy to load my pandora up with emulators and porn of my own chosing. Lets face it, you might all like a different kind of porn and gaming systems to me anyway, so including every concievable emulator and genre of pornography is pointless (and friggin dangerous if customs were to look into the "Garry Glitter" photo collection).

EDIT - No, I'm certainly NOT into the Garry Glitter kind of porn.

Or just connect the Pandora by USB?
Actually that's a good question, do we get a USB cable with the Pandora, and will it be usable out of the box as a USB storage device?

I think it will be like the Wiz that when you connect it with the USB cable you can choose to edit NAND, SD1 or SD2

I am also interested to know if mass storage works properly :)

I have never heard of getting a usb cable with the Pandora. I believe it would be a waste to ship usb cable as most people already have at least one... I probably have about half a dozen USB cable... (male mini USB B-type / male A-type)

I know that this is completely off topic, but as a grammar fiend, I have seen this time and time again from ED, even on the official site and blog posts.

http://www.d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com/

Apologies in advance if "definately" is the correct British spelling or something. It's just really been bugging me. Like for a year and a half.

Talking of mass storage, would something like this work?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trans-StoreJet-320GB-Portable-Mobile/dp/tech-data/B00178TVPY/ref=de_a_smtd

Would the pandora's battery provide enough power to this unit for a short time, enough to allow you to copy over some files to an SDHC? I mean, sure it would shorten battery life (though could be useful if it was plugged into the mains at the time).

As a "grammar fiend" how could you type that sentence... In other words, being a grammar policeman online has the dangerous consequence of others criticizing your own grammar :p

Sorry, off-topic...
