1 Or 2 Usb Ports?

I like the idea of setting up my Pandora on a TV, hooking up a PC controller to it and playing it on the big screen. My girlfriend likes old school games too and I was wondering if there will be 2 USB ports or just 1? As you see I want to be able to play some Toe Jam & Earl with my girlfriend.

There is a USB HOST port and a USB OTG port. You can always connect a USB hub to get 4 USB ports.

Thanks, actually that's a good point. But what I may try to use if available is the wireless Xbox 360 receiver with 2 controllers. That to me seems like the best idea.

Or, maybe anything Bluetooth ;) Wiimote or PS3?

Honestly if you are using more than one controller you can get super small USB hubs you wouldn't even notice (in fact so small you might have trouble using them).

Any ideas if something like this will work? The Magic Box Saturn and PSX converter.

I own one and if this would work that would be great.

Does it need no special drivers? Do each of the controllers show up as a separate device? Is the computer part a normal usb port? If the answer is yes to all, should work.

I think that those converters generally are just recognized as generic game pads, but I am not sure. If any game pad/joystick works on the pandora, it should.

Yeah I believe my computer just sees it like it was a regular controller. Very cool indeed.

also about the main topic, I hope that when connected to the computer, the hardware will also charge or lessen the electricity need on the battery like how the PSP slim does

As a proud owner of an x360, ill we be seeing support for that controller, because it does need special drivers in winXP sp2, and i believe ubuntu 7.10 as well.

or do I have to use my logitech dual action?

If it works on ubuntu and it doesn't use some exotic or large drivers (the pandora kernel has to be as small as possible), it should work.

Hold on: I thought that the USB OTG port was both a host and a peripheral in itself. Does this mean that it has one port that has two functions, or that it has one two-function port and one regular host port (for a total of TWO physical ports)?

There is a dedicated USB host port and a OTG port which can either be a device or a host. That's two physical ports. Not howveer that the OTG port is a mini-USB.

Note however that the OTG port is a mini-USB.

just buy a converter...
not that hard... and then you have 2 usb host ports.

:p

I happen to have a converter, actually, because my TI calculator had the same USB-mini On The Go port, and I got hold of some nice USB MSD/HUD drivers for it. On second thought, I may have lost it by now...

It's really really got to be USB-mini Male A to USB Female A! Some go to USB B, which won't power any devices.

No kidding?
The mini usb port is a host port as well?
No fooling?
Ahhh yeah!
I have ton of mini usb cables laying around from thousands of devices doing nothing.
It will be nice to put them to some use.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe OTG is unpowered, so if you want USB host from that port you have to make a cable as described here.

I have a usb power "Y" cable and a rechargeable USB battery pack, so no worries there either.
Also, there are tons of useful usb devices that don't need additional power. Keyboards and Mice are good examples.

There are Western Digital "Passport" pocket sized USB ONLY powered hard drives. I did some research on them a while back good for their price, just advised to reformat to ntfs or ext*
