I submitted a post to the news section a day and a half ago, but as it hasn't been approved yet, I'm going to go ahead and repeat the announcement here. Mods feel free to merge this into the news post when it is posted. I didn't get everything done that I had wanted for a next release, but made some fairly significant changes. We'll have to see if they are for the better or not. First, the obligatory screenshots and then a quick description of the changes.

* Icon based menu system replaces popup menu, easily navigated with controls or touchscreen
* Now playing screen with player controls and album art.
* Translations text, only English right now. I need translations and then I'm sure stuff won't fit right and I'll have to tweak...
* Key binding configurations. There is a file 'keys' that can be modified to change the default key bindings. Press Select+Start(Home) together to see the current key bindings for each mode(playlist, now playing, etc) you are in.
* Touchscreen seek bar
* New skin/crystal icons(currently depreciated all old skins and only have this one)

Quite a few behind the scenes changes also, and I'm not exactly sure how performance will be affected. I do know that startup is a little slower than I wish, but otherwise things seem okay. Anyway, it's been long enough, so time to get this in the wild. Next step is to blindly put a Wiz version together.

EDIT: New version 0.4.1
  • Speedup in switching between main menu and submenus and back
  • Increased polling of mpd to increase responsivness of ui
  • Unified codebase with WIZ changes
  • Removed unused show album art option from options menu
  • Removed default directory from skin list in options
  • Fixed names in language file of key bindings that were ending up in the options file when saved

EDIT: New version 0.4.2
  • Cut down start-up time by half
  • Fixed Add to Queue key binding
  • Tweaked touchscreen handling code so that it doesn't miss as many presses

Enjoy and let me know how it works for you.

Great to see a new version :) If there is a touchscreen seek bar does that mean you maybe have switched to another MP3 decoder that now allows FFWD/RWD ?

Thanks for the work, I use OMMPC for all the music in my car nowadays so I must thank you.

Still uses mpd, there's always been FF/RWD, just press and hold the triggers... This just allows for an instant jump if desired, should be really nice for jumping ahead in a podcast or audio book. Glad to know it's getting use...

As long as MPD supports it(and I would think it would) I should be able to. I have to check and see what I might be doing wrong around that code... I will definitely take a look...

Great looking update! I rarely use my GP2X for media these days, but I'll give this a test run for sure. Thanks Tim.

Hi Tim! I decided to install the GP2x version on my F-200. Now I can compare it to the Wiz version and better examine Wiz specific bugs.

- I received occasional crashes to menu when updating the db in this version too. I tried to track it: Play a song then stop it. Now try to update the db. This always give me a crash.
- Enabling album art, I lose all icons and the cover in the "Now playing" display. (Same as in the Wiz version)
- Setting the skin to "default" crashes the player. Same bug as with the Wiz.

New build which should address two of these items. Still haven't attempted to track down the occasional db crash.... Link in OP.

And another new build in the OP, that speeds up start time considerably and has some touch screen improvements...
