A/v Cables Have Arrived!

Wow those look nice...! I can't wait! :D

I'm a bit curious, why are there two red and two white jacks? One for S-video option and one for composite?

Edit: Scratch those last questions, I see the "out" and "in" on the plugs now. :p

Which brings up another question... these are gonna allow audio input through the cable?

The ext port of the pandora always had a audio input. It was planned from some time that the tv cable would have audio in. So yep stereo audio input through that cable. And don't forget you can also connect a mono mic to the headphone jack... or use the built-in mic. :)

I agree with all the above, especially the metal svideo. Crap, I might have to add one to my order now. One question: The part that slides into the pandora (that sounds dirty) is it metal or plastic? Looks to be black plastic...

hmm, i thought they were going to be more like mini USB

Already ordered one

But these look just about the best they could be. They look a little better quality then the average AV cables, but yet not so HQ that they are thick and hard to bend. Can't wait.

plastic with little metal tabs on the side that lock it inside the connector

Cool. I know you know what you are doing, so I'm sure the quality of the connector is good. Given the metal s-video that was unexpected, you clearly wouldn't have gone with plastic Pandora connector if it wasn't going to do the job.

Thanks for giving us the pics, and the quick replies. It definitely helps to see such things.

/quick side question, Craigix said the cases hold the nubs in place. Does that mean they use contact connections, or are they soldered on, as usual?

Let me also say that I am glad you changed the keyboard contacts from 'side-by-side half circles' to proper intertwining 'E reverse-E' shapes. I thought the original contacts were odd.

it means plus the solder pads, the case will hold them onto their place mechanically against being ripped off.

Oh man, I'm gonna have to order one of these babies! I mean, I always knew I would, but I'll have to do it sooner after seeing the OP logo and name on the cables. B)
What a nice touch!

The nubs are soldered to the PCB. The case has a ring around the nubs that prevents sideways motion. There is a key in the nub plastic that would hold it under the case if it could fall out (but not going to happen because it is soldered).

Those half moon pads go way back to when we were looking at the little clicky dome switches and I had to make provisions for those to be soldered on if we went that way. Once that was completely abandoned, we changed to the more standard pad which was a long, long time ago. There just hasn't been a picture if the top side of a PCB since the ones made in 2008. :)

nice u OPT changed that i would have hated the clickety sound, what is left now is the LR pushbuttons, plus, that kind ok keys have a way too short lifetime.

about the cables, how long they are?, 60cm? 1.2cm? 2-4Ft?

Great!!, more than enough to presenter anywhere . nice Panda will be the recently found lost nexus between PDA and Laptops too

haha

Office Panda Mate, it just needs to replace the stilus to a fountain pen, and a stapler

Really nice looking cables, made me go "Oh, i want to add one to my order... oh i wont need the TV out for anything, too bad...".

To MWeston:
But on the ext port, do you have any ideas on whether RS232 converters would be sold?
Of course one can DIY those, but just asking. I would boy any of
1) Just a cable with one end fitting the pandora ext port, and the another end a 2x7 IDC (fits to pin rows on pcb) connector. (Assumed price max 10 EUR)
2) About the same looking cable as the AV cable (but not 10ft please, more like 15cm), but instead of AV output in the other end would be a small box with 2 RS232 connectors (female, as in PC mb's). (Assuming price approx 30 EUR)

... actually i might boy both of these, if offered :) (One for my own DIY external stuff, another for simple on-the-go serial ability)
