I wondered what if I replace the card reader inside the GP32 (where the Smart Media is plugged in) with a universal 3.3V/5V connector version (Desoldering old one and soldering in new one)? Identically they should be the same, but might it allow usage of higher capacity cards. I am pretty handy with soldering irons and thought if it might work.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Duh! you may be a noob (with one o), But it seems as though you may have read various threads on this subject, Hence your suggestion. You obviously haven`t read them close enough as the problem is to do with the bios not being able to access cards larger than 128mb and not just the 3.3v/5v thing.

Sorry for posting such dumb question. I just really wondered if it would work or not...
except there aren't any higher capacity cards.
I don't why I was so sure they existed, thanks for straightening it out.

OK, what if I just replace the current card reader with universal 3.3V/5V one, then I should be able to use any SmartMedia card (meaning 3.3V or 5V) up to 128mb, correct?

Just sayin cmon why would we want to increase the size of the smc?I think its best to have it just like it is now,Its fun to encode things to that size and mess it up and get pissed off :p Cmon It is fun!Anyway whoose gonna paly all 600 nes games?

Why would you want to use a 5v card anyway? The 5v versions are being phased out, and the 3v versions are much more popular.

Besides, where are you going to get 5v from? The Gp32 runs on 3v, remember?

More battries!!!1 ;)

I think the best idea for extra storage is just make a prog that can span files over multiple SMCs... ("Insert SMC 2"...) I bet that it would work with normal emus even now that you can start the emu, remove SMC1, insert SMC2 and load ROM....
