Psx4gp2x Public Beta 2 Released.

Phew has anyone gotten Crash Team Racing (.img.znx) to work? Only blackscreen for me :/ Plus Ridge Racer Type 4 (PAL & .bin file) only shows me the first screen (namco) and then crashes. However, Wipeout rulez :) And FF7 is now graphically perfect, just too slow in battles (still played already 3:30 hours heh)

[/quote] Hey, that's what the hardware-scaler is for, hey?

what´s happen with the hardwarescaling option of the emu???
it looks better than blacklines. why is it cancelled?? <_<

So I take it that this improvement comes without sound implemented, yes? Does this mean that if sound were to be enabled, that games would play as they are with the public beta, albiet with sound?

my ridge type 4 works, slowly, and tracks are invisible in the menus, and cars are hard to choose, but it works ;)
even the video intro works ;)
(but about 5FPS ingame at 275mhz :p )

BUT yes it takes a little time between the namco logo and the video, have you waited enough ?

i'll have to try wipeout too :D

Oh, and BTW, what is the "hardware decoder"? AFAIK the GP2X has simply a dual-core ARM chip, no special video decoding hardware. There's a high possibility I'm missing information here too :)

READ MY SIG.

We have a little thing called a SOC (System On a Chip) called the MMSP2, go to the link in my Sig and read the picture, that is what is in the GP2X for the most part.

@zodttd, So a new release is slated for sometime soon? Within a couple weeks? or not?

Well a small update before anybody gets nervous...

I have allmost finished the first asm gpu pixel pipeline, that is all the pixel procesion intrucion converted to asm, and I'm quite happy with the results, It as been a intense work this weekend sience friday I only went away from the computer for sleep(not much) and eating(not much either).

I we are still wating to evaluate how much faster games will work with the recompiler... on the other hand gte(geometry transfor engine) is still interpreted and we need to measure more acurately how mauch time is beeing spend there for 3d games.

Well thats all, zottd will post a proper update soon.

I hope there will be a new release soon.

To be true, I actually still don't own a gp2x yet..... shame on me
I really want to see those psx games running smooth, like on the psp....

.... Riiiiiiiiiiidge Raaaaaacerrrr

ok <_<

Anyway Zodttd and friends are doing a great job.....
Let's face it....
- there are almost no commercial games for the gp2x (only 2 at the moment and those are not my cup of tea actually)
- playing those old games can be fun for some time (because there are alot to play), but it won't be interresting for a very long time...... although the 16bit consoles (snes, megadrive, neogeo) have more interresting games
- homebrew/ported games?!...... hmmm.. I guess there are some..... but as far as I know no masterpieces (yet)

Playing psx games will make the gp2x alot more interresting, because the psx had alot of great looking quality games.
Zodtdd and friends really make the gp2x worth buying for me :)
If they create a perfect emu, they will get a donation from me for sure :D

It'll never be perfect. ;) Why not donate soon if psx emulation is so valuable to you, and let's help the project along. It is to me and I have. :)

Hi everyone,

Just a quick status update, but a good one...
I got the dynarec in a good enough state that it successfully runs games all the way through. Some bug fixes are still needed here and there, but it looks like it's in good enough condition to be a baseline for optimizations. I will see if Unai or Tinnus would like to take a chance at optimizing the dynarec from it's current state.

Posting framerates the dynarec gets and all that good stuff in the next 12 hours or so.

I can't believe I made a dynarec and it's working. :p

Will keep everyone posted...
ZodTTD

w00t w00t!! :D

That's what I like to hear! Get 'em, General (Zod)ttd and crew!! HUZZAH!!

....I can't believ3 you made a dynarec and it's working....but you DID IT!! The PSP is gonna be lookin' Shyt-TEE very shortly.

im most impressed zodttd

making a dynarec seems like a huge undertaking from my view

and i was wondering if you could explain (only if you got the time/will) how the dynarec can be coded in C i thought a dynarec had to be asm ?

with most respect evol

Surely it has to output ASM, but I don't see why the mechanics of it need be in asm. Unless it's one of those crazy-complex ones that retroanalyzes it's own code to work out how to recompile stuff, perhaps, but even then, seeing as it'll be in machine code by that stage (after compilation) it'd probably not make a difference.

In any event, fantastic work. I'm sure we'll all be happy to help with quashing (or at least, identifying) those last few bugs. Especially if the speed has doubled...

Playing games with a nice framerate and some sound is good enough for me :)
First I want to have a gp2x and have my hands on psx4gp2x myself.
Psx4gp2x is the reason I want to buy a gp2x.... I also could buy a psp to play psx games, but hey... the gp2x is much cooler to play with :)

I would say if you can spare some cash, give it to them (but don't pay in pennies, pay like at least $2 or something; paypal fees suck).

What? more than $2 !!! I was thinking about $0.25 for Zodttd and $0.25 for Una-I :p hehe
No, I was thinking about a bit more :) Somehow the same amount you gave.

i think foton should only donate when he is satisfied with the product. i will also donate when i'm ready to use the emu, so i need sound and a good framerate at fs1. when that is done, i will donate.
una-i and zodttd it's really great news how this emu is coming along. you guys are really great. rock on
