Hi everyone,

I've just released 0.9-beta of gp2xmess.

This release supports 3 new drivers. All from the Apple ][ family.

The apple2, apple2e, and apple2c xmess drivers have been added. The emulation is a little slow, but it is complete, w/ sound, input etc. After I get the last few drivers I want to add in, I will tackle speed. There is always overclocking in the interim. :)

This release is also the first one using paeryn's awesome HW accellerated SDL which was necessary for the Apple 2 driver to even run. The virtual keyboard w/ the scaled resolutions doesn't look as crisp as the systems that are at or below 320x240. I'm working on that and hope to have it resolved soon.

Here are some action pics:

Cavern Creatures, one of my favorite Apple II only games

Rescue Raiders

Karateka, no explanation necessary. :)

This release is available at the usual place:

Also want to thank the folks who have made donations for my development work over the past month or so. It's really appreciated!!

A *BIG BIG* thanks also to paeryn for all of his help!

As always let me know what you think/find/etc...
Enjoy!

The link to your page works but the download link doesn't and it still says 0.8 beta.

Thank you for your great work on this, looking forward to give Apple][ emulation a go.

Also do you think drivers for the Arcadia 2001 would be possible at some stage?

Hi Iorgy77,

Thanks for pointing that out. I uploaded everything *except* the new HTML. That's done now. It's very possible I could add support for the Arcadia 2001. I don't know a lot about it but I'll look into it.

If anyone has any other issues crop up please let me know.

thanks,

Amazingly you show screenshots of 3 of my favorite games on the system (In fact, both Rescue Raiders and Karateka are on my 50 most memorable games list)

I get paid on the 15th. A paypal account will be created shortly thereafter (or I will simply hijack my wife's) and a ( far too small) donation will be headed your way.
For the record, I would have donated to you regardless, just based on your previous efforts. I've really been impressed with the Colecovision emu you ported and have been spending the last ouple of days getting acquainted with the amazing collection of games on that platform.

Wow! This looks great, nice work Telengard.

If I can break myself away from my new TI toy here (loaded new PE box), it looks like I'll be suitably impressed B)

Hiya remowilliams,

Am I reading the above correctly in that it says "new" PE box? Where on earth did you score a new one? Must have cost a small mint judging by the prices they get used on eBay. I have a CorComp 9900 Micro Expansion system but I'd like to get a PE box too, just not sure where I'd store it. :)

I can't get the Apple emus to work ... I have the apple2e.zip in the bios folder, but I select apple2e.gpe, and get dumped back to the GP2X menu.

A couple you may hopefully consider in the future if you are looking for drivers to add would be Vectrex and Intellivision.

Great emu thanks.

Hiya TelcoLou,

If you are exiting out chances are it's the BIOS. What are the filenames inside of your apple2e.zip?

I have:

a2e.cd
a2e.chr
a2e.ef
a2ealt.chr
disk2_33.rom

Yep. I had the wrong BIOS  Thank you (nothing beats the ol' stare & compare)

Anyone else have problems with the emu exiting if you have the virtual keyboard up too long?

I've noticed something like that on the apple emus. It always happens when I have the keyboard up. I thought perhaps I had hit too many keys in a row and blew out some kind of key buffer.
But I think the evidence points more to what you are describing.

Hi guys,

Sounds like a bug/crash. I'll look into it. Just so I have this one right just having the virtual keyboard up for a certain amount of time (without using it?) will exit? Also, is this w/ the Apple II emulation?

If either of you can reproduce it easily could you possibly add the following to the end of the invocation of gp2xmess in the startup script (gpe file) and post the debug.txt file contents in this thread?

> debug.txt 2>&1

In the meantime I'll try to make it happen.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

If I get a chance I'll add that command to the script. Can't do it from where I'm at right now. GP2X and it's stupid USB mode. Now that the source is out maybe someone will come up with a better USB connection driver. Preferably one that acts like a memory stick.

Here ya go.
