As posted by Anarchy on gp32spain.com (he has a beta-tester version of the FW):

- CPU speed is reduced when 200 MHz are not needed (e.g. navigating the menu) in order to save battery power

- CPU speed selector in video player

- Low battery red led working

- LCD configration menu (limited to 14 pre-sets)

- Photo viewer and MP3 player bugs removed

- Stereo sound has no longer inverted channels

- More 2GB SD are supported

Hope this helps !

OMGNOWAY! *happy explosion*.
Do you know if the CPU speed changes when running MP3?

It is not specified.

Sorry.

w00t! Well then I guess after I recieve my replacement GP2X I might just have to wait for the 1.3 release to come out before I upgrade the firmware. This is exciting. I hope they did something with the installation of it as well to make the installation more stable.

Anarchy writes that the installation does not touch the u-boot, so upgrading should be safe.

No news of what new bugs they will be introducing? Must be saving the best until last ;)

I just hope this fixes the lcd problem. I'm getting sick of the ghost lines. Does this firmware also enable both of the processors so the gp2x starts to run at 400mhz?

I won't go through all this dual processor stuff, as I don't really understand it, but all it is is that in processor terms, 200 + 200 != 400.

Nice! Thanks for the info.

Ehh... hate to keep doing this, but in SMP, 200 + 200 = about 350...

However, the GP2X isn't SMP... so who knows.

Essentially, yes, but it's up to the developer as to what that other 200MHz does, since it's not SMP (Symmetric MultiProcessing).

Anyone know if the auto-bricking feature ("Firmware updating" at boot when no firmware update is on the card) has been fixed in either this or a previous firmware release? I'm honestly begining to get impatiant (having waited for over a month now with no word on when I will get repair service or a replacement), but if this is still an issue then I'll feel more comfortable with the delay.

LCD menu is great news. Here's hoping for some big improvements.
Now to concentrate on fast startup IMO (hibernation mode?). Probably a good idea to get the movie player bulletproof too, though I don't use it myself.

As for the dual CPU's, there is no easy solution to using them (well), it needs a lot of skill. I think it's really especially hard for emulation unless, perhaps, you have one CPU for rendering and render a frame behind?

I do wonder whether Magic Eyes would have been better off putting on one core at 300-400 MhZ? It's much easier to get the most out of one core, and even if it was just 300MhZ it might be worth it, because you have to be pretty good to get even "300 MhZ" out of the dual core system we have now. They'd also get better yields of the MMSP2. Still can't do much about it now can we? :)

Whats this auto-bricking-ness; does this occur once in a blue moon on all prior firmwares, or just specific ones? I'm on FW1.0 still .. the only real annoyance I have with it 1-in-7 times not picking up that the SD was inserted (or crashing when it is.)

adgloride -- Each CPU core is a lane in the highway; having two lanes doesn't make the highway any faster than one, but it means two cars can both go full speed if they want to.
