Gngeo2x 0.6.9 *update*

I guess no pause button is OK, as long as you can insert as many coins as you want. ( I'd waste all my money if I tried to finish Metal Slug 3 in the arcade ;D )

EDIT: won't != want ;D

can anyone get metal slug 3 or 4 to work for some reason i cant use dumpgfx to get the gfx but it will work for sam shodown 4 and metal slug2

The Metal Slug 3 romset I tried contained files mslu3_c1.rom etc, and wouldn't extract. I found a decrypted set of cpu rom files ph1 & ph2 it was a small file under 2mb. I renamed all the old roms in the first .zip, deleted the old p1 & p2 files and replaced them with the ph1 & ph2 files. Rebuilt the .zip archive and then ran the gfxdump utility.

The game would crash with sound disabled, and runs too slow with sound enabled to be playable in my opinion, but at least it didn't crash.

I haven't bothered with Metal Slug 4 yet. I guess that there will be a similar kind of thing going on with that .zip.

I won't be bothering with the Metal Slug games until their performance with sound improves.

I have every faith that pepone will, and that this emulator becomes even better. :)

Of course it could be much simpler than my first answer, make sure that the contents of the .zip are named the same as those used in the romrc. just use wordpad to open it and take a look. :D

Arcade games don't have pause buttons. If you want pause you could try editing the gngeorc file to run games as AES instead of MVS. The roms are the same, if they worked under MVS mode they'll work under AES.
Arcade games don't have pause buttons.

But most emulators do. MAMEGP2X does. Just holding down R for a second or whatever would be a perfect solution.

heh, when is set it to AES emulation, i always get to the controller test screen, because all the player2 buttons seem to be pressed.

can this be changed somehow or is it kinda "bug"?

thanks

Hi, I sent a PM to pepone last week asking him a few questions including one about going into a test screen when using AES bios.

This was his reply:

Since the GP2X is not multiplayer, I didn't implement joy2 input. I'll check the problem with that. It is trivial IIRC.

So he is going to be looking at the issue, don't know where it is on the list of things to do though?

:)

Stupid question, perhaps.

I've finally gotten Garou: Mark of the Wolves (the prototype, "garoup") working (and it's working damn well), but I seem to find myself in the Survival mode (one-round bouts, no energy recovery in between) and without the ability to continue if I lose a round (which is something I've noticed with the GP2X Mame emulator as well). I've tried playing around a bit with the dipswitches, but there's no change. Is there a way to just get standard two-round matches (with continues) that I'm missing or (since I had the same problem with MAME) does this have something to do with the settings of the emulator?

Could tell me how did you make it work? because when i use the prototype i have a License Problem.

Bye

For garoup to work, you have to edit the romrc file and search/replace "garoup" by "garou"

Which one the one in dumpgfx or the one on the GP2X?

Yes. But the GP2x isn´t an arcade cabinet, as you may have noticed.

Neo Geo MVS boards have a pause button. It's a hard dip switch, IIRC.

Not to be confused with the MVS softdips in that little menu, which is activated by one of the hard dips.

MVS boards do have one, and yes it's a hard dip switch.

in fact it's the same file, so rename in both, then rename your zip in garou.zip and launch the dumpgfx.
But you will have to modify yours romrc under Linux and not Windows.Because i don't know why but when i did it under windows the emu freezed each time i launched it then.

If someone have a notepad wich has not this prob i take it. (i tried Notepad,Edit and Notepad++ all under Win2k and XP)

Actually, you don't need to modify the romrc of dumpgfx. Just remember to rename garoup.gfx wy garou.gfx
Also, never ever use the romrc provied with dumpgfx for win on the gp2x. Line ending is different
For editing the gp2x romrc, any modern editor (not notepad :) ) should work.

I didn't try (I don't use windows very much :D ), but other people say that "programmer's notepad" http://www.pnotepad.org/ do a good job to edit unix file.

For paypal, You'll find what you need at the very bottom of the gngeo homepage
