Gameboy Advance Emulator.

Yes at there is a version that uses SDL... but I believe that it is a fully "emulated" emulator if you know what I mean (rather than a VM, so it emulates every aspect of GBA in software) so as it is it wouldn't take advantage of the fact that the architecture is the same... and from another thread on this topic I believe that this is the first one? But it is a lot faster than GBA processor, which needs some working around ;)

Hey, if someone wants to port that, go ahead and let them, who cares if it doesn't take advantage of the ARM processor on which it will be running for GBA emulation. Like you said, devs only port or code what interests them, so don't expect them to port it the way YOU want. If you want one that uses the ARM processor for GBA emulation instead of emulating the processor, then YOU do it. Many people would be fine with a GBA emu either way, it's also never been stated that you can't have more than one emu for the same thing, so if someone wants to use VBA, then I say, "Go ahead!"

in the end as long as there's full speed near perfect emulation of the GBA and GBC I couldn't care how it's done via VM or emulation.

but my money will be going to the first dev that brings out a near perfecct gba/c emu

My money is going on beer. Beer and sausages!

I am so German now. I even sit down to pee.

hmm... Sweden sounds nice... I've always thought about moving to Europe once i'm done with my edumacation...
...
Anyway, on the subject of GBA emulation... I think we have a good chance of seeing SOMEONE creating an emulator... I mean even the PSP has a GBA emulator... wait, maybe i should email the author for the source if the software is GPL'd... hold on... lemme check...

there seems to be all the rage with SNES emulators.

anyone working on a GBA emulator?

if anything I think gba games would be better on the gp2x. as the fonts and text would be easier to see

with SNES emulators. the font/text are alittle small. as the games were first intended to be played on bigger video like a 20" tv.

I'm not keen on trying to read little words on a rpg on a 3.5 inch screen.

sure there are great games on the SNES and some that I wanted to actually play and finish like Final Fantasy 3. and secret of evermore.

but common people alot of the games we have for the SNES we played already and finish, with SNES emu on the gp2x we are just playing games we played so many times before. now instead of on a PC or SNES we are playing on a portable device.

I'm looking forward to GBA emulation as it is not so playable on the gp32 AFAIK.

There are alot of of games for the GBA that I've never played before that I want to play. plus the size of the text is intended for smaller portable screen so I don't have to squint my eyes to make out text on RPGs.

as much as I like Final Fantasy series and Secrete of mana and other games from the SNES I am ready to try some new games.

I would have got a real GBA. but it is just a gamming device. the gp2x is multifunction.

I would LOVE to sit next to some young punk in the subway train with a GBA and whip out my GP2x.
- first I'll listen to my mp3 on it
- then i'll watch a south park episode
- then start viewing pictures of pretty girls.
- then I'll startup the exact GBA game he's playing. ..

and then I'll do the same thing to the DS playing punk.. (minus playing the exact game as him, but I'll be starting a good gba/snes game)

Then I'll sit next to the last punk with a sony PSP.
- first I'll start up a game while he's playing his game.
- then he'll be a smart ass and start his mp3. and I'll do like wise
- then he'll start to view porn pics, I'll do like wise.
- then he'll pop in a UMD movie and watch it. I'll do likewise with my movie
- he will smirk at me as he see his 4 inch screen agains my 3.5 inch screen.
- his victory will last for 10 minutes while the battery on both our unit runs low and blacks out.
- I will wait a few minutes to see the boredom and disappointment on the punks face then I will pop in a spare AA battery into my GP2x and let him watch me play Chrono Trigger.

Whoa whoa whoa! Someones a bit unimformed!

UMD Movies run the battery, yeah, but hell, youll still get about three and a half hours!

And theres always the powerbrick!

visual boy advanced

i think its open source and uses SDL, quick to port?

</2cents>

I don't think the Gp2x could handle VGBA as it is right now. Perhaps the Gameboy, Supergameboy and even the Gameboy Color Part might work with fs0-2 but GBA is too far away with this emulator, not even if you overclock your gp2x to 300mhz...

I guess the best way would be to port the GP32 GBA emu directly or make a new one based on the knowledge of the GBA...

@Reapeman93010

IIRC the makers of the Z GBA emu were charging for it, something in the region of $30 as well.

Or did I just make that up? Curse this fried brain of mine!
