External Power Supply

Why are the naming conventions for power connectors so terrible?

In any case, can someone post a picture of what kind of connector fits the GP2X, please. I have more than a few wall warts around 1A that I'd love to be able to use.

Also, if it has a charger plugged in, the GP2X will work with no batteries in, right?

It says in big letters:
3V
500 mA

And the connector fits the gp32. Will that work?

It'll probably be fine until you try and play games or movies on it, or attempt to waggle the joystick. You really should use 800ma or higher (1A is best).

Prothall: Yes, the 2x will work without batteries if you have an adaptor.

The GP2X seems to use around 450 - 500ma in "idle" mode, and around 250 - 300ma more when actually doing something. Nobody knows why yet.

In particular, it's been measured that the main menu uses up about 450 - 500ma, but if you press a direction on the joystick, it jumps to around 750 - 800ma until the joystick is released

Gotta be a firmware bug.
Has anyone tested if moving the stick in HH mode increases the current like that?

I wouldn't try it the bit that jumps out is OUTPUT: 5.8V --- 1A 5.8VA
the gp2x needs 3v looks like this gives out 5.8v nearly double you'll probably kill your unit with that.

Edit: lol too quick for me....

bmilleker, in case you have a similar situation, you've posted the Amperage in plain site for all to view. Amps are a metric unit, usually measured in milli-Amperes, or these mA everyone is going on about. The "A" is then the big cahone, the thousand milli-Ampere or mA. Just to be clear.

Hey, just got my adapter today.. But don't have the unit yet so can't test it :)
Anyway, you guys think this will work?
http://md5.se/gp2x/pub/adapter/

It'll kinda work - you'll need to get an appropriate plug to fit it, as none of the ones in your pictures will.

bmilleker: 1A = 1000mA, so your mouse adaptor delivers 1000mA at 5.8v. The voltage will likely kill your 2x.

So what's the specs on the appropriate plug? Anyone got a pic?

oy all the reading!!

i think since my purchase ive done more reading than testing/playing ;)

Would it be possible to make a sticky or a special list of perfect ac adapters to be used with this system? it would be beneficial for everyone, as they wouldnt have to scan through every thread; and god knows there are a lot of them

There is no real "perfect" AC Adaptor.

It just needs this:
Input: [whatever comes from your wall]
Output: 3v 1A

And the appropriate connector, though I'm buggered if I know what that looks like.

You have essentially no leeway on the voltage, though you can try using Amperage as low as 500mA. Won't do you much good, though.

Hm, I took two new macro shots of the connectors.. I would really appreciate if someone could take a look at their unit, or make a qualified guess if any of them would fit. Or, if anyone know exactly what plug we need.

Thank you! :)
No good dude, all too big! I'll take a pic of mine and try to post it somewhere...
Sorry, my camera is just too rubbish to take a decent picture :(. Basically, imagine the smallest male connector in your pic was female; that's the size you need.
