hey guys,

could you tell me gba will possible to run on gpx2?
or what do you think?

sorry if this topic already exist
thanks

buy a DS and one of those passme thingys, cheaper than a gp2x that wont be as good for gba games

It _should_ have enough power to run GBA games, but no one knows if it will be able to, or how well.

People have talked of porting Virtual Boy Advance which uses SDL, so it is technically possible.. even if it only ends up running at 1 frame per second, and chances are that the port will take some time after the GP2X is released. Don't hold your breath.

Your best bet for GBA is to buy a DS..

Well, the GPAdvance, I believe it was called that, used the GP32's CPU somewhat directly, being of the same ARM family. As GP2X has two of those, the other CPU could be used to emulate the additional chips and bits.

Takes a bit of coding, though...

To have the high quality large screen and to be able to keep a lot of games on one card.

Why would we want to emulate GBA which we can still buy?

If ethics confuse you, I'm sorry.
Like Titcher said, to have lots of carts that we already own on one memory card, also for the large screen, the anywhere-saving, backing up our saves, applying patches, etc. Really quite a simple matter.

If logic confuses you, I'm sorry. Sorry that you automatically think the worst of people.

Well we all know that 80% of the people that would use a gba emulator are going to steal games, heck I would be sooo tempted too if there was one, even though I have a gba and loads of games.

And a snes, megadrive, arcade emulator etc etc is ethical?

As most know, laws in certain countries will allow you to have a backup of the game that you own.
Piracy is piracy if a console be 5 years old or 5 months old and you break those laws.

So how is playing a GBA emulator with a backup game of which you own more or less ethical that playing a backup game of a megadrive game of which you own?

Oh and by your logic you should go out and by a few arcade machines.. because they still sell those.

Not like there are any good new games for GBA... Blech.

I think, of the games that have come out for the GBA-family of machines, maybe the Golden Sun games might be interesting. And few japanese only titles, in which an emulator or flash-cart comes in handy, for the possible english patch. Watashi wa... sumthin.

This conversation is difficult ethics wise but i would love to see a gba emulator. Especially if it worked using the proof of concept way of just running the code natively with the second core taking care of the extra chips that need to be emulated. I've no idea where you'd even start programming such wizardry

I've never played a GBA before so I am not really interested in a GBA emulator at the moment. I couldn't tell you if it's possible or not to emulate it as I usually judge this by looking at ports to other machines with similar hardware and power, I guess you'll have to just wait and see like everyone else.

Forget talks about ethics when the majority of us play emulated games. Even if a game isnt available to buy in shops we have no right to download it for free to play it.

I play a ton of old 20 year Spectrum games, some have been granted permission by the authors to be freely distributed but many i play dont. Do i feel bad ? Hell no, much worse things happening in the world today

What i wont do is moan to people about roms/mp3's/ripped dvd's etc.

Someone like Worldwriter is the biggest hypocrite no doubt of them all. Hes the type of kid going to teacher to snitch on you.

As someone else rightly said, many MAME machines are still available, most of the games we play we illegally own. How about all our MP3's?

I cant believe Worldwriter is a saint. Yes GBA roms are i would say more 'illegal' than 20 year old games but in the eyes of the law its the same.

Looking at his other posts he constantly goes on and on about emulators and how bad it is for us to use them.

Then in another post hes asking for the latest release of a SNES emulator. Very very hypocritical.

Please Worldwriter, get off your high horse and start going on and on about emulators.

Hey guys... if you took time to read my posts about this crap you'd see that my views on this stuff are pretty straight forward... and it really doesn't have anything to do with laws for me...

My viewpoint, and it really doesn't have to be yours... I'm 28 and well beyond the need to impress you or try to shift your opinion...

all I know is... SNES and the other "dead systems" are no longer making money for their creators... for me that makes them ok to emulate.

GBA and DS are still money makers and still going concernes for their creators... when snes and nes was available, I either bought or rented game carts... and before you even ask... yes emulators existed for snes while it was still out... and no I did not use them.

So stop saying there is no difference betweeb emulating a dead console and one that still has games created for it... there is an obvious difference.

You can not harm the sales of a dead console by emulating it. So.. really stop comparing dead console emulation with GBA emulation.

and psj... if you want to make it personal bud... no thanks, you're not my type.

So does this mean that NES, SNES, and GBC emulation for the GP2x should just be stopped now since Nintendo's Revolution will play downloadable versions of all these games? It will certainly mean more money for nintendo from this supposedly dead system.

For god's sake stop trying to argue ethics in a community that survives mostly on emulation. The only thing that stops people form emulating another platform is hardware specs.
