At first HELLO everybody as I am new to this forums :)

I think the photo is real, take a closer look to it and you can see the hand of the person with the camera who took the shot (though it could be done in Photoshop but hey I think they do not bother doing all of this).
of coarse its real (i mean why bother photo shoppin something like this....) plus why waste the time when you can watch the vid and look at pics of it on gbax??

The system is real but the screen on it is photoshopped in. It's rather simple to create the reflection if you know how to use the program.

ohhh ok...( i thought people were saying the actuall hardware was p\sed)

No, its all a bunch of lies. There is no GPx2, and were it to come out, the whole thing would explode upon turning it on, seeing as the volume button is one, not two fully functioning buttons that we cant play MAME games vertically with. I know if indeed it comes out and isnt a lie that was photoshopped by Gamepark, that I'll be holding it vertical all the time, even to watch movies cuz thats where its at nowadays. B)

I don't think that would work very well though as the buttons are not connected. I couldn't imagine playing Ms pac-man style games that way. It would kind of be like the d-pad on the PSP only worse. It would be very hard to hit diagonals like in shooters , and forget fighting games as well like that.
Not really. The PSP d-pad is terrible with diags, but that's because they're so spaced out. The action buttons on the GP2X, on the other hand, are very close, so diags should work.

However, it's already been said by Polooo that the Volume buttons can be programmed for other functions.

Honestly I can't see why people claim the PSP D pad is so bad for retro games, just because it's split on the surface? It's still connected underneath, they only split it up on the surface to avoid being sured by Nintendo with their patent on the regular, "connected" 4 way Dpad. For an old 8/16 bit game this should be just fine assuming you have a adolecent sized thumb.

I don't get it, though... how come Sega had a D-pad on all of their controllers (including the Dreamcast) and never got sued by Nintendo?

/and just for the record, I hate the separated D-pad that playstations have <_<

I can only go by my 6 button genesis controller on this but the Dpad, even though it has a 4way cross, is also sitting on top of a circular base. If it was just a 4way sticking out of the pad they have to pay royalties.

As for the Sony Dpad, I simply chose to "get used to it", hasn't bothered me since.

Play Super Mario RPG or any other isometric type game. ;)

The D-pad, hard drive based saves, and hard drive based caching are the best things the XBox has to offer.

Too bad it doesn't have any really blindingly good games to take advantage of it.

I believe they use a circular design for their dpads with a cross embossed on the front

I dont' want to create console war.

Halo2, Morrowind, MGS2, PES4, Star Wars KOTOR, Doom3, Half Life 2, ShenMueII, Fable, Forza Motorsport, etc...

I think the point he was trying to make is that most of those games could play just fine without the hard drive. that's just a guess though based on the fact that I've never heard anything spectacular about the harddrive casheing those games exhibit.

The XBox has saved me a ton of money this past year by keeping me from having to buy a top of the line PC for the games I'm after. I need to get it modded so I can add emulation to that list, though.

You wanna know about hard disk cahing being used to push the envelope? Try Farcry:Instincts.

2 words:- Hot. Damn.

to squeeze a graphical masterpiece like Farcry:I out of a 733 celeron with 64 meg of shared ram is nothing short of... miraculous. Just shows you what you can do with clever use of the hardware available...

I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but I see no reason to conclude the photo is faked. (Possibly colour enhanced, but not a fake screenshot pasted on top)
  • I don't know where 640x480 came from, the actual pixel size in the photo of the screen image is about 460x340, and as someone pointed out you can resize it to 320x240 with no evident loss of detail. Yes, the fine print in the top right is illegible, that doesn't mean anything... this is probably just a mockup image some graphic designer put together at high res and shrunk down.
  • The screen is not a perfect rectangle in the photo, it follows the perspective skew of the unit precisely.
  • The reflection looks genuine. Note in particular on the right side where the fingers intersect the screen image, the colour from the screen bleeds into the fingers a bit. This is a blending artifact of the camera's CCD and would not be present if the screen image was pasted in afterwards. We can see the same thing happening on the left side of the unit, where the black case is subtly bleeding into the shadow of the cord. This is the "smoking gun" for me... nobody would go to the trouble of faking an imaging artifact like that.
As far as the vibrancy goes, it does look bright for an LCD, but it's hard to make conclusive statements about this without knowing the camera characteristics, lighting conditions, etc. Heck, maybe he boosted the saturation in Photoshop... I'm not saying it couldn't have been modified afterwards, but I'm pretty sure that's at least a real image on the screen.
