Trooper

Quoting only 1 half-sentence of what I said is not "correct" I suppose ... :(

The point I was trying to make was that , there is no better OS in itself for the simple reason that it really depends on what you want to do on it, plus all this praise about Linux is kinda boring after all, because I think it does not deserve all this hype. And some people will always find a "better" OS , such as Qnx, NetBSD, FreeBSD, AmigaOS or whatsoever

Anyway, this is a GP32 forum , and an Emulators / Fday related thread , so better talk about the real topic ... ;)

About the tuning up of emulators , a better 2600 emu would be cool too, though difficult to make according to what I read here and there, and other machines such as the horrible Thomson MO-5 and TO-7 (wonder if they once sold outside of France...) are not emulated yet , so I don't think Fday will be the end of the emu scene.

f-day won't be the end of the emulation scene, but it will surely be an earthquake! :)

I just wonder how I will find the time to try all the emulators... I still have to try a lot, and I bought my first GP32 in spring 2003!

Nope, I was doing some SMC hacking whilst doing my SMC->SD adaptor project (making 512mb of storage available to gp32 applications). However, my gp32 didn't seem to like one of my modifications and hasn't worked again since.
I'm not going to spend £100 on another GP32, so I think I'll just let it R.I.P.

Was it a BLU?
'cause I have a working BLU without LCD lying around... you want it?

Its true after this everything will be put to a stop! BUT once the gp64 comes out then all hell will break loose and everyone will be happy again.

Not really because Rlyeh is not doing an Intellivision, Lynx, Atari 2600, Vectrex, SNES or Apple II emulator so those are still wide open.

Maybe once almost all of what is possible to emulate on gp32 is done, the emu coders would form a super team and optimize the hell out of opensnes...
But if it did happen, it'd be cool...

I don't think everything is done.. Far from it.. Not talking about stuff that's hard to come around, but of all those 70s and 80s systems that were :p Dunno if it's any useful but you'll never know eheh.
BTW anyone thought of doing a gameking emulator? eheheh (one more won't hurt)

Also most of the emulators around can still be worked on, especially Opensnes!

I had an idea for a couple of new topics.. watch out for them :p

No it isn't cause you havent seen what I'm (slowly) working on!

What are you working on? tell me i'm curious :p

Well, I'm still earning my programming legs, so not much. There is NO emulators planned. But I got some cool homebrew ideas in my head and my C is getting better all the time.

You just ruined it for alot of us! We didnt know whether or not Rlyeh was making a SNES or another emulator, now ill have to mod my gamepark and learn codingskills to be able to play 4.5mb snes roms. Like that will happen muhahahah.

You should have known that he wasn't doing SNES. It isn't listed on his site and it has been said many times that he isn't doing one.

And MS-DOS emulation is also missing, although I dont see many exciting reasons for doing so.

How dare you speak of such things. What next people will be wanting to run Windows 3.1 on their GP32.

Give me a break, who would want to run any Microsoft APP on a GP is just stupid.

Linux is here to rule, sorry but I take offence that any one would mention DOS.

Why don't you try to learn some thing new!!!!

You should think twice before posting your agressive dumb sentences.

When I started using MS-DOS, it was MS-DOS 2, it was running on a 4.77 Mhz 8088 with 256k RAM, 640x400/320x200 CGA 16 colors mode (black and green monitor).

Year 1987, yes I'm talking about MS-DOS, MS-DOS is not Windows. Its weak, but it runs on very low spec systems, thats why it was a sucessful OS, MS-DOS stealed the PC game from IBM that alone its History.

I had a lot of fun with "Cyrus Chess", sierra adventure games, Elite.

And

I dare to believe thats POSSIBLE on GP32

My point is that Linux has and will always outbeat any Microsoft Windoze OS.

It's like why would you want to eat a burger when steak is already there!!!

As some one said before DOS with a RISC CPU would be so slow and just retarded.

Also, the last thing we want is Microsoft looking at the GP32 seen as well.

Any educated Linux geeks as my self understand this. It's those who do know any thing about Linux or are to lazy to open their minds,

Anyways enogh said this si not a Linux form but GP32, the God of all hand helds!!!! :D :D

you're JOKING.... there were a LOT of great old DOS games back in the day... And PC's were less powerful back then than the GP is now... you know that's a great idea why hasn't anyone done this??? Screw Linux like there are just so many great Linux games... Linux as an OS rocks compared to M$ stuff yeah but you can't deny that there were TONS of great DOS games that would be well suited to the GP. As someone else mentioned the Sierra games were friggin fantastic, to start with....

You are right.

The fact is that I understand that it will be almost impossible to get GP32 emulating 486/Pentium DOS games like Dark Forces, Tomb Raider, Screamer, Command Conquer, etc. Or 3d Studio, or the amazing Fractint. (If you dont know what fractint is, search google, btw Fractint is opensource it could be ported :)

We would need 386 protected mode emulation, Soundblaster, VGA, etc, and speeed. It looks a sf task for the GP32. Not to mention the lack of keyboard.

I believe there is still a chance to emulate fullspeed older systems like 80286 with DOS 3.3 and CGA/EGA, and maybe 80386 with MCGA. There were lots of apps at that time.

YES! Please do. This was my first computer and sadly, tragically the tape drive was broekn so my mum decided to sell it without my knowing  . Still got all my Jeff Minter games from back then...just can't play them!

That is SOOOOO retarded ...

Ms-Dos emu would rock, because there are Tons of cool applications and games designed for Ms-Dos (or any other DOS-like system BTW, FreeDos or PC-Dos to name a few)

And anyway Linux is bullshit, it can't even recognize half of the hardware involved in my Laptop ( Fatal error when trying to recognize the HD IDE controler, that sure is bad) , whereas XP work flawless on it.

and tell my why someone willing to use a MS software on his GP32 would be stupid ?
I just don't really get the point ? Do you mean that like 98% of people using computers in the world are stupid or what ? That's just retarded .

And anyway, if someone want a Windows port on his/her GP32 that's far from stupid if they use it for some purpose ...

Basically you can't really judge a OS only from the OS point of view, you need to see what software you run on it and sorry to differ from you on this point, but having games such as old aventure games (like Mortville's Manor, Sierra games) running on a GP32 would rock . (some of them already work using the ST version, though Mortville Manor sound is awful under Castaway and Pituka (for the CPC version) so not really fun to play then)
Okay, I'll quote all your text to make you satisfied.
Now, if you were trying to run GPLinux on a laptop, you're only being silly <_<
Anyway, all hardware for the PC is mainly designed for Windows (especially laptop hardware), so that's not very strange. Put some work into it and find a suiting (and NEW) distro for your laptop and see why it's so "hyped". Or, if you wish, you can continue supporting the Micro$oft empire by buing their products. Linux needs a lot more (and deserves) hype to make the PC standard better  (for newbies; that's the main goal with Linux...)

I hope you will open your eyes a lot more in the future  !

If dos box is anything to go by I don't think we will be playing old dos games on our gp32 any time soon if ever.

The only thing worse than an Ati\Nvidia fanboy has to be a Linux fanboy.

Do you know how many people you turn off Linux with the whole "I'm so much better than you idiots as I use a better OS" attitude?
