Final Nintendo Killer

Yeah ive played the DC version of Chaos Field. It was good but it still lacks that special touch that was evident in ikaruga. But its still good. And just to clear it wont be touch screen controllers that i can be sure of.

The gamecube was actually pirated at an early stage by peoples own made modchips where they used cheat device memory cards(if I remember right). It's just that it has just became a big commercial thing, the DS is already piratable, don't believe me, go look up PassMe. Nintendo aren't too worried about pirates, not many companies are, to be honest, the extra units and things that are bought outweigh all the piracy, piracy makes a console popular, like the dreamcast, alot of people buy that just for the homebrew of it, the only reason it failed is because it was ahead of time and sony stomped all over them as expected.
If the revolution does have a touch screen controller I hope it fails badly, touch screen is terrible for controllers. Oh and, the DS isn't revolutionary, touchscreen isn't new technology, you didn't even say that, but I know you will, you fanboy you.

Touch screen controllers, what could go wrong?

Oh right..

1: Sweat, moisture, can cause a false "touch" reading.

2: most touch screens can only read one "touch" point at a time.

3: Despite what you say, touch screens can and will scratch, imagine fingernails and normal controller wear and tear on your touchscreen.

4: While it'd be cool to have an infinitely configurable "holo-pad" It's just not durable, practical, or cost effecient (Can you imagine buying 3 of these things if you wanted to play a game with a friend?)

5: Doing moves that require you to do a rocking motion of buttons-d-pad or anything of the sort in a game would be damn near impossible, your mind has been configured to use a d-pad and buttons for the longest time, think you can adapt to a little thin touch pad?

I mean look at the Xbox, practically no one buys that and doesn't modchip it.
I don't know anyone with a chipped Xbox, yet most of my friends own Xbox's. Lets face it, piracy isn't that big of a hit to profits as the masses don't know how to do it.

Woah there!

I wouldn't say that's the case. Just becasue you dont know many people with chipped Xboxes, deosnt mean that they're not around. To be honest, I think the majority of people I know that have xboxes actually have them chipped. Its harder now you cant (legally) buy them in the Uk though.

what are you lot on about the N64 be crap, the n64 sold loads of units, loads of games. And is still selling for about £40, where as I picked up my PSone for £15. And nintendo do care about pirating, but they don't base desicions on it. If they did then they would have never have even thought about disc drives and internet capabilitys for the SNES and N64. Yes the PSone won because it was new and different, plus had a wider chioce of games but nintendo didn't lose they just came a little bit behind.
The Gamecube is still selling well to and Nintendo didn't have to change the consoles looks to do that. The Gameboy has always dominated the handheld market, even when the GG came out with full color and front lights.
And the dreamcast still lives on, people still make games for it and not mary kate and ashley ones either unlike the PS1.
And a touch screen controller would not fail at all, if you want to simulate rotating the joystick just do a full circle with your thumb. Or rocking just move it back and forth.
The DS screen is strong, responsive and not overly sensitive, I bash the hell out of it in Zoo Keepers. It's always covered in grease or sweat and never thinks I'm touching it. And It knows the difference between a press and moving about. Like in the select a mode screen you can highlight an option or choose it. and they can make waves in SM64DS, without accidently selecting a file.

The only reason to make a console with a DVD player is an extra not an essential, it knocks up the price and is not nessarcery for gaming it's not a do or end all.

Do you people think you are the first people to think of these problems? Nintendo aren't stupid, they will have thought of them too. They aren't going to bring out controllers if they aren't usable.
And piracy is a big problem, a survey was done which showed 21% of xbox owners play pirated games. And when you're making as big a loss on hardware as Microsoft is, you need people to buy games to make your money back.

i just read....

the middle of the page, if this rumor turns out to be true, i think this will be the end of nintendo. that is unless they release regular controllers with these touch screen controllers. I applaud nintendo for wanting to be different, but touch screen controllers work for shit, if anybody has tried an emu on a pocket or palm pc that does not have a pad.

Well i recall reading in an interview in IGN, that nintendo has already said there would no screens integrated into neither controller or console.

So that rules out a touch screen.

Best wait till E3 May.. and ignore the rumors :p

nintendo are just digging themselve a foothold into a neice part of the market with a modest amount of profit, whereas Sony and Microsoft are trying to be number one in the market.

nintendo are in it for the games, the others are in it for other reasons

Nintendo are hardly going to do anything stupid are they?

Besides, the Revolution can play GameCube games. Meaning that you will be able to plug Gamecube controllers into it.

I don't know if this would be possible, but if nintendo can pull off a system where the buttons can pop up and "feel" like the real thing, yet completly configurable by the developer, it would be great. A true revolution, even if hardly possible. ;)

Is that true, I was almost certain that it is only Playstation modchips that ate illegal to sell in the UK, not XBOX?

The biggest problem with a touch screen controller would be the lack of feedback, You cant feel when you actually make contact with a directional point so you're essentially playing all analog all the time, also yout timing would be off in the case of rapidly taping buttons for any number of reasons because you wouldnt get the impression of when to release for the next press. This would make fighting games impossible to play.

As for scratching a screen sure I dont doubt it would happen but these arnt likely to be high powered graphic displays, why should you care as long as you can see the things you need to see. But again this assumes that they even plan a control like this.

Ultimately all this crap is moot untill E3 anyway.

Thats a matter of opinion  lets see, IMO some stupid things done by Nintendo, Virtual Boy, GB pocket, GB Camera, GB Printer, GBA card reader, GBC reader for N64, GBA/Gamecube connectivity, DVD-less, backward compatible-less Gamecube, and well also I don't agree with the DS. All of these can be argued against of course but Nintendo definately don't do everything right.

Oh like mario pinball? paper mario? pokemon [insert crystal name here]?

If you think Nintendo arent in the business to make a profit just to entertain consumers, you've got a screw loose.

Every company is in it for the money but it's the principals by which they obtain that money. Some companies value customer respect, some react to to trends and some want to be the trend makers. These dont have to be done at the expense of the customer (out side of the price of admission) but some do it anyway because they get greedy.

That said I dont see nintendo as greedy or they'd be a hell of a lot more agressive, they'd drop their family friendly all ages image in a heart beat and make games about feeding on the livers of newborns or something if it meant getting a hardcore following. I genuinely feel like Nintendo wants to create new and interesting things because they feel it's how they can hold on to the position they've had their sites on since the debut of the NES.

Kotd unless you have some damn good reasons for those things being bad...

Vitual Boy: ok, its red only but it did sell like hot cakes before it was took of the market
GameBoy Pocket: I guess you loved carring a brick and hate haveing to use less batteries
Gameboy Camera+Printer: I was black and white but still you could have fun and print of stickers of you mate with graffiti
Card reader: I agree it was a horrible attempt to grab money by making you fcollect cards.
GBC N64 Player: Main purpose was pokemon but it came free with stadium, so you can't complain
GBA/GC Connection: Not to great but it had some fun uses and wasn't to exspenive.
DVD Less: This is really annoying, why the hell would you want to own l5 DVD players in you household. And if you mean for gaming then the discs are created for gaming in mind, they contain all the space you need. Anyway if the PS3 is DVD compatible then the BLU ray disc reader will have to suffer and you'll be paying more for that feature.
NDS: You don't agree with....?? wow, Theres like one game you blow into to the mic and its one game of 100s of other minigames.
Play Zookeeper and you'll change your mind about the touch screen. maybe not about the DS but the touchscreen, And the mic is more about talking to the games, and inputing your voice, watch some Electroplankton Videos
