Uk Ds Launch

HAHA, the fact is he still says a game that has new code but has "Wipeout" or "Metal Gear" in front still makes it a remake or whatever, instead he goes on to talk about the innovation in the DS???? I was talking about all the nintendo games with Mario, Zelda, Mario, Mario, Mario and Mario in front of them. Same thing, your just talking garbage.

Nintendo new ideas? wont bother answering that one.

Just got my DS, but because most of the games have sold out I'm stuck with Ping PAls as part of the package. No one buy this game.
The DS is bulkier then it looks on display stands etc. but it's more to hold on to...

What is ping pals? is that the chat program? or something?

Ping Pals is a retail 'game' that is basically Pictochat (the DS's built in chat program) with nicer graphics and some stupid, useless BS extras that really dont justify paying the price of a game for.

Now when the DS goes online compatible, then maybe somethign like this would be wanted, but it better be like $5-10.

Bast, you were right. We can't discuss the relevant merits of each system without being bombarded by people slagging us off!!!!

Did I ever say one was better than the other? Has Bast?

No, I am clearly not your sister as I have never had sex with you. I am someone who just wants to play good games. I am old enough to earn my own money, and even though I have a small kid, have enough disposable income to support my hobbies. I hoped to be able to chat about these two systems. But clearly nobody on these boards can discuss the DS, or Nintendo, without being flamed by children desparate for their system to be "Better than Yours". Grow up, FGS!

Okay, nintendo are just trying to fleece us? How, the DS is so cheap? I can get one off GBAX.com for £75.

Now the 'garbage' I was talking about? The innovation? I've played most systems since the 70s (I'm 35), and I have never seen a system that allows you to talk to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have you played feel the magic? Have you blown onto your screen before? Have you had to shout at your playsteation to control an action? Have you had to rub the screen to make something happen?

http://games.kikizo.com/reviews/ds/superma...ermario64ds.asp

Click on that link, and watch the vid of the Nintendo man showing the demos for the new DS features, which They are planning to implement into the new games (the new Sonic makes excellent use of the touch screen!), and then just post me back with your daft arguments then. I'm waiting for intellegent debate.

Yes Mario, Zelda ecc will be remakes. But each new game in these serieses is hardly comparable to the new FIFA or MADDEN release. And I know that the DS will have just as many worthless sequals as the PSP, but what I said was that when one killer game comes out for the DS, cos it's so cheap we will buy it!

Remember, you playstation children, that Atari caused the whole industry to collapse in the early eighties by releasing to many rubbish sequals.

(Wipeout pure does look superb though!)

PSPs innovation is the screen, and those graphics. How they did it, I can't work out!

Now then, was that so ignorant? Have I said anything inflammatory? And don't worry, little children, your beloved PSP will be a Huge success. It's just the the Ds will do okay too, IMO. At least I hope so. Cos Nintendo do make superb, incredible games, whether you sony fanboys like to admit it or not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Humph

Well I don't agree with anything you say, you keep changing your opinions and statements every post.

Well I finally got to have a go on a PSP and it is a wonderful piece of kit for sure. There's still no games I want on it yet but hopefully that'll be sorted by the time it finally gets released in Europe. I still think Sony are mad letting the DS have such a huge head start in Europe and I hope they suffer for it - but we shall see. I also plan to own both systems at some point and don't see the point of all the constant bitching on here lately.

Lubidog - no offense but I have to correct you again here. The part about no game that you talk to, ever being out before this. Well, as a matter of fact, there was a microphone attachment for both the Nintendo 64 system, as well as the Sega Dreamcast. On the Nintendo 64, there was a Pokemon based game (called Hey you Pikachu) where you would talk into the microphone to get the onscreen character to do things. For the Dreamcast, there was a game called Seaman, in which you raised a virtual pet, a hybrid fish with a human face... once he grew up a bit, you could talk to him, ask him questions or whatever.

So... just wanted to say, the microphone and talking to games thing has been done. And no, I dont remember who did it first.

The touch screen thing... well... PDA's have been around forever... I dont know if there are any PDA games that let you use a stylus to control, someone else here probably does... so I can't say that this is exactly 'innovation' or not. I will say, that using the touch screen as a controller is very hit or miss, with the few games I've tried. For games like Metroid (the demo), the control is fantastic using the touch screen to look around. For games like Feel the Magic and the mini games in mario 64, same deal... but as a substitute for an analog controller (the lack of which I consider to be one of the DS's only true oversights) I feel it functions rather poorly, and hope companies don't waste time trying to implement it in this way.

Theres a game out/coming out for the PS2 which you control it totally though a headset.
It's a survival horror where you(head of some space station) command a woman in order to save her life.

Although most other parts of the system are used else where Nintendo are still innovative for using them all on one machine. Most other companies wouldn't have the guts to do this.
There is nothing new about the PSP, sony have just shoved popular items into a rushed designed box. I do plan to get one once they reach the £100 mark and homebrew is more of a possiblity. Anyway the UMD was my idea, I said when Minidisc came out that they should use a simalar idea for game colsoles, but mostly because for thier resistance to things and ease to record to.

Both machines have thier faults and so do both companies. Both Companies for instance love screwing over europe. And both machines screens are likely to get damaged.
But the one BS line I hate hearing is about the PSP design being so great and that you can't blame sony for the Square button and Disc ejection problem. The escuse the company used was absolutly pathetic and you can blame them for cutting corner to save on size/cost.

Do I, It must be because I didn't explain myself well. I want both to succeed and can see the merits and cons of both systems! Too many cash in sequals are bad for the industry, but some sequals are welcome, not so hard to comprehend?

Couldn't agree more! Just don't understand why people get so angry. If you don't like a system don't buy it! But it's not like the days when a console went on the market at £300. We can all enjoy them!!!!

Yes, I remember those attachments. Never used them (did they come out on the N64 over here?). But they were add ons, not central to the machine. Played lots of games on my ipaq that use the stylus to move, but it never worked very well for me. Again, it wasn't what the unit was made for, and was unsatisfactory. (apart from Bubblets, Oh.... Bubblets!).

The point is that these features are central to the DS. And they work very well (IMHO). Feel the magic is short but sweet. And that Vid of the possibilities is exciting. So of course it's an innovative machine! How can it be any different? There are features that have never been on a machine LIKE this. If we curse it, and hope that it fails cos it aint so cool as a PSP, then gaming will suffer. Sony did great stuff with the Eye toy, are we slagging that off?

BTW, has anyone seen the vids of Wipeout Pure? They do look geil. But am I not allowed to say that, cos I defended the DS? Or because it's a sequal? Anyway, that's all I wanna say!

It's true the DS is the first time that these types of features (touch control, voice recognition) are really the main point of the system as opposed to afterthoughts and accesories that no one bought (well all of us DC owners surely bought the Seaman w/mic... don't lie you know you did!). And as such, you will see a lot of games that will use these features instead of only a handful. Hey don't get me wrong I wasn't knocking these features at all, just saying that it's not the first time we've seen them. But it is pretty much the first time we'll see them get put to such good use and get used so regularly. I'm not gonna throw the word innovation around.... I dont really care if that word applies or not, but I do think there will be many enjoyable games that take advantage of, and are more enjoyable as a result of, the DS's features. Feel the Magic, short as it was, was great fun, no arguing that.

Apeiron - who would be stupid enough NOT to blame or get mad at Sony for their blatant inclusion of KNOWN defects into the PSP?? I was pissed when I read that statement about it "not being a defect as it was done on purpose".... I have a bit more room to be pissed seeing as how I spent a small fortune on my import PSP... so feel even more cheated. At least Nintendo went out of their way to take care of customers who had any problems with the DS (I had some lit pixels on mine) I mean they really bent over backwards to take care of it. Well... Sony have a bad reputation for a reason.... but do these issues keep me from loving the PSP? No... they do make me not love it as much though :D I really don't like not doing as well in games as I know I should do to an unresponsive square button or an R shoulder button that constantly gets stuck.....

True, but that was Kutaragi's comments, not Sony's the company, if that makes any difference? probably not, and you have to worry about how accurate the traslation was of the interview. Anyway your right it was an annoying comment, I'm not defending him or sony, but they did offer free fixing plus paid postage both ways for anyone (in Japan) that had a problem with the square button. I think that was a reasonable solution. As always I had to pay for my postage to get my stuff fixed from nintendo with the GBA etc. Also a lot of people (in Japan) reported that instead of fixing the unit with the square problem, they just sent them a brand new one, which is pretty cool I think.

Also it effected 0.6% of units...so is that a lot? I think less than 1% isn't too bad.

eh... that is all arguable. First off, that problem with the square button sticking is just one of the problems the PSP had or still has. Yeah it's nice they offered to fix that one thing, but what about all the other stuff? Both PSP's I have had an R button that would stick down if you pressed it a certain way, this problem seems VERY common. Pretty much every PSP owner out there has noted the difference in 'feel' of the square button and that it doesn't seem as sensitive/responsive (you have to push on it a little harder as it is off center from the contact pad). What about all the people with dead pixels? Why hasn't Sony rushed to fix those, considering it's one of the biggest complaints or just plain the thing that ticks people off the most. Or dust/bubbles in the screen? No mention of that. These are all very common problems. 1% even is a lot considering how many have shipped already. I would bet money that it's a heck of a lot more than 1% of the systems that have been plagued by some/all of these problems... maybe only 1% of people actually felt it was worth complaining about it? The rumor was that if you sent your system back it would be at least a month before it was returned... in that case many people probably just felt it wasn't worth a month being without their shiny new PSP's to fix these 'small' problems.

On the other hand, I really must applaud Nintendo for their policy with defective DS's.

When I called Nintendo to ask about the warranty, if I was covered for my two lit pixels, they went out of their way to take care of the problem.

The day that they recieved my phone call, they shipped me out a BRAND NEW DS, via UPS 2nd day air. I recieved email confirmation with a tracking number that day and got it right on schedule 2 days later. They also included a return label, so I just put my defective DS back in the box and sent it back to them. I never paid a single cent for any of this... that's right it was ALL - FREE. And I still can't believe they actually sent me a new one FIRST, BEFORE even recieving my defective one. They took my credit card info, just in case I didn't return the defective one, but never charged it, and gave me a very generous 30 days to return the faulty one before I would be charged.

Sony should learn from their example.

yep I agree. I was lucky and had none of the problems except for the lit pixels. The sqauer button does feel different though, thats for sure.

I never had any good customer support help with nintendo, I always got..[please buy replacement board/screen/part that will cost more than a brand new unit] and the usual insulting of my intelligence.

and about the defect, why in the hell are you all throwing a fit? they're replacing them (something nintendo didn't even do during the GBA screen fiasco) plus it's not like they said "ok, let's put a defect in here ON PURPOSE!1!ONE" I didn't see anyone screaming and saying "I HOPE THE GBA KILLS GP32!" because of the latest GP32 blu+ issues or the hardware quirks we've dealt with in the past.

Biased much?
